Default XF Supercharger Conversion

Hey all,

I am new to Jaguars and performance tuning in general. I didn't find a post that matched this one, but if there's one out there I apologize for asking the same question twice. Just point me in the direction of that thread and I'll be very happy.

I'm wondering what all would need to be done to convert an NA 2012 Jaguar XF to a supercharged version.
To my understanding the Range Rover that year had the same engine and supercharger as the XF & XFR.
If I were to buy one of those superchargers off a wrecked Range Rover what else would need to be done?
I'm assuming the exhaust would need to be replaced, I'm also assuming that the timing might need to be adjusted and maybe a few other things but wouldn't those things we taken care of by a performance chip upgrade?

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I don't have the full answer but I understand that it's simply not possible without massive expense and you are better off getting an engine or car that is already supercharged.
One of the main problems is that you need different / new pistons as the SC version has a much lower compression ratio than the NA version, so straight away the engine must be removed from the car and pretty much dismantled.
This AJ133 Technical Training doc may help as it covers both versions and explains the (multiple) differences between them:

Thank you for the info.

So then is there nothing more than exhaust work that can be done to the NA XF for even nominal power gains?

Are you planning to race the car? Or just doing a custom build?
Another route will be turbo-charging (bi-turbo would be wicked on a V8 ) but that can easily get high in $$$ and you will be up the route of custom build since I doubt anyone has done it on these engines (at least I haven't seen anything about it)...
You will need a custom tune as well.

But considering the costs of these cars, you are probably better off selling yours and a little more $$ on top and get the supercharged one.

XF is definitely not a bolt on supercharger type of car. As others have stated it's cheaper to buy the Supercharged models rather than trying mods, unless you have lots of resources or own a auto shop.

I get that it might be cheaper to trade in on an XFR but I don't necessarily want OEM.

To answer your question a little of both, I want to show it and take it to track days, drags, and whatnot. I have an inquiry in with Turbolab out of Utah who state they can custom turbo anything.
They way I look at it is if I can spend 15k in a custom turbo build or 10k on an XFR, I'll spend the extra to have something that no one has seen before. I hope it works out.
Thanks for the information and the idea.

That, I respect and understand... building your own ride is fun... expensive... but damn fun!
And I have a soft spot for Turbos . That's the reason I went for the NA version, not a big fan of superchargers (not that is anything wrong with them, is just personal preference).
If there would be a turbo kit out there for these things, I would probably be planning for it on the long run.

If you do go that way, please do come back and show the results. I will gladly drool over the pictures .

If it were me, I would get the XFR because of the beefier engine internals and look into twin-charging it.
