Locked my only key inside the trunk

Default Locked my only key inside the trunk

My trunk release isn't working and I can't find my spare key. It's a 1997 XJ6L. Any ideas? Can't fold down the back seats like my X-Type.

You will have to order a new one from the dealer to unlock the door but then, you will have to get all your keys re-programmed. I did the same thing awhile ago, this is the course of action I had to take.

take the lic plate off and you can go through the lower hole to pop the latch open with a long small screw driver

Perhaps a silly question, but have you also locked your remote fob in the boot?
Also, I assume you haven't got a second remote either?

If you do order a second key from the dealer, you won't need to have the keys reprogrammed because they aren't micro chipped. Jaguar started that in 1998 with the Xj8's.

I recently had an issue entering my boot while away got an automotive locksmith out he picked my seized lock.

15mins and £20 cash and he was in....

Good luck !!!

I'm glad that you guys have got your keys back again but I'm slightly puzzled. How the heck did you manage to lock your keys in the trunk in the first place? Was it a case of .....
I must take this suitcase out of the trunk.
I'll use the key to open the trunk and keep the key in my hand.
Ooops, I need 2 hands to lift out the suitcase but what shall I do with the key? Shall I put it in my pocket or shall I just drop it next to the battery?
I'll put it in the trunk. What could possibly go wrong.

Is that how it works?

It is always a good idea to keep a local locksmiths number programmed into your phone. You never plan on needing a locksmith but it sure is nice to have them when you do!

The key of my X300 1995 has a chip and is programmed. This is what prevented some thieves to take it with them.

The key for my '96 X300 is programmed also, as I had to have this done by a main dealer when organising a spare. The OP is based in the U.S. and they don't have the same immobiliser/alarm set up as European cars, so maybe that's relevant?
