Default X300 / XJ40 Shocks interchangeable?

Hi,
Around 18 months ago I had the 'Touring Class' Bilstein shocks fitted to my X300 XJ6. They are the back coloured ones.

I really wanted the yellow heavy duty Bilsteins at the time but they did not seem to be listed for the X300.

I'm not happy with the softness of the black shocks and with some upcoming front end work I see it as an opportunity to change.

The yellow heavy duty Bilsteins are listed for the XJ40 but all the catalogues don't list them for the X300. I note however there is an ebay seller that lists the same yellow Bilstein shock for the XJ40 and X300. I also read in the October Jaguar World magazine an article on an X300 that had yellow Bilstein shocks on it.

So can anyone definitely answer, are XJ40 and X300 shocks interchangeable? I would have thought they would be.

Thanks

They make them for xj300. I have seen them listed under vanden plas 95-97

The heavy duty are alittle more firm but not stiff like an after market set like sensen.

But sensen do not last long.

Didn't you install sensens not too long ago? Did they go out on you already?

I'm at about 2500 miles on my set of 4

Autopartswarehouse is where I bought mine originally from. I ordered the 'B6 Heavy Duty' but all that turned up was the black touring class. It seems that is all they really have. Note in the picture of the Heavy Duty they still show a black coloured shock, not yellow.

I wanted to send them back but I'm in Australia and the cost of shipping etc meant I just installed them hoping they would be ok.

Thanks
The later XJ40s have the same set-up as the X300. The X308 is also the same.

However the early (at least until 1989) XJ40s were different - different lower wishbone and the lower spring plate fits on the shock so you need to avoid those.

Default Pressed bones

Two old school bones on our cars,MY 91,the difference is the lower shock mounts support the rear bones, thus the weight of the rear of the car.

Part # specific,for your design/Ser #

Cheers,Jim

I had my front original Bilsteins rebuilt. They are great - way better than the KYBs I had on for a couple of months, which were dreadful.
So think about rebuilding before replacing
