Default 2001 XJ8 Service History (8 years) Spreadsheet & PDF file

Hi
Member timpb requested a copy of the service history spreadsheet that I have been updating since we purchased our 2001 XJ8 (8 years of history).

The spreadsheet gives dates, mileage, type of service description, service provider, and costs incurred.

Here is the spreadsheet in the PDF format (easier to view then the Excel format):

2001 Jaguar XJ8 sp.pdf

And here it is in the Excel format:

2001 Jaguar XJ8 sp.xls

Thanks for this very informative post.

I have to say our oil and lube prices are cheap!

It runs me $130 at an indy.

I see you replaced the tensioners at 90k.

What condition were they in? I only have 66k on my '01 XJ8 L and was thinking of changing them at 75k.

Jim - has the extended warranty been of value to you? It appears you paid for many repairs after the warranty was purchased
regards,
Ed

Hi
The answer to how badly worn were the tensioners is that driver side secondary tensioner broke apart and the secondary timing chain jumped one tooth.

This put it into limp mode with restricted performance (only the passenger side of the engine was running).

The passenger side secondary tensioner was also cracked but was still holding the timing chain in place.

The primary guides and tensioners were also cracked on both sides of the engine.

That is why I decided to have everything replaced all at once (all the timing chains, guides and tensioners, also the water pump) since these parts were accessible during the repairs.
The engine issue happened on 6/23/2010 and the forward disk transmission issue on 9/6/2010.

I purchased the Extended Warantee to protect us from such major repairs as engine or transmission issues. The Jaguar new car warantee ran from 8/30/2001 to 8/30/2005 or 40,000 miles.

The Mercury Insurance Premium Value Gold coverage was 48 months or odometer mileage 85000 miles. This coverage started on 7/26/2005 and ended 7/26/2009.

Unfortunely nobody told me about the Tensioner issues or Forward Disk issue that were apparently well known to the Jaguar Dealership Service Department.

If I had known, I would have at least paid for the removal of the cam (valve) covers to inspect the tensioners.

The last extended warantee covered repair was the fuel pump replacement on 4/23/2008. I paid $2250 for extended warantee and the repairs they covered totaled $1239.

I purchased the best extended warantee available at that time when the Jaguar warantee was ending.

I suggest you get your tensioners inspected and replace them as soon as possible.

Jim -- You bought that car at a very good price.

Mine only has 50k on it so my repair costs are much less -- but I paid quite a bit more for mine.

Thanks Jim for the response.

This will be my winter project for 2012. I only drive the car about 5k miles per year and unfortunately, my expenses are with my wedding and honeymoon.

Thanks again.
