I have the same grill set up on my Jag, only both my surround and grille are factory items. Looks good, stands out a bit.

I like that Stu1986! I might try to buy the mesh cut outs and install them in my vdp grill

I thought these were sold. So, I went and ordered a set and I can't stop smiling at the difference they make on the car. They aren't installed permanently as the car is still under construction but I can say, they are a nice investment.

I thought that the factory put mesh grilles only on supercharged Jaguars, which is a way to identify the "faster" cats from afar. Also, that the non-supercharged cars have after market mesh grilles. Perhaps it started that way and then Jaguar changed that?

Cheers,

Unsure of the reason why chrome mesh grills were first placed on the Jaguars. All I know is that while at the dealership I noticed a few and thought they really complimented the front end. I noticed a few forum members who'd added the chrome mesh grills afterwards based on their posts.

My 4.0NA is a boat and it won't outrun any performance vehicles. All I know, is that adding the VDP chrome side mirrors, and the chrome mesh grills complete any additional chrome that I want. At the end of the day--it's personalizing to my taste without any expectations of added performance.

Back on track and BUMP for the item listed for sale.

There was definitely a specific reason: Jaguar installed mesh grilles -only- on all supercharged cars, starting with the MY1995 XJR. Unfortunately, somewhere in the mid 2000's mesh grilles became available in the after market for anybody with a non-supercharged Jaguar; so much for the special performance identifier. However, I believe that, at that time, the factory, themselves, started putting mesh grilles on non-supercharged cars.

Cheers,

Thanks for the knowledge My initial response was an attempt at humor "and why I wanted them". Being around performance automobile, and long hours at the track I was going to write a very long initial response but went with "I like them for aesthetics", as I know there is no super-charger in my XJ8. At the end of the day I know her limitations and wanted to bump this thread as I know he's been trying to sell the item here and on Ebay. Bump again for the final time.

Lykke til

It is typical for peformance upgrades afficionados to change the car's front grille, not necessarily with the mesh version that Jaguar chose, but with some various kind pretty nice ones, typically covering the (new) turbocharger at the bottom opening. Every time I see one of those special grilles I realize that the car has, most likely, some nice power upgrade (like S/C or turbo).

Such as in my own case, I have excercised this "right" (a special grille) on my XJS derived from the 130 HP increase that the nitrous injection and other mods make possible, and which is 50 HP more than the 80 HP increase that boost gives the XJR. If curious as to what a mesh grille looks like on the XJS, take a quick glance at my XJS gallery.

Cheers,
