2011 XJL Engine Replacement.
I found out yesterday that the 2011 XJL that I bought in August will have to have the engine replaced--it only has 23K miles! I was told that the engine will not maintain oil pressure. I'm shocked and disappointed.
I'm thankful that the 2011 model year has 5 year warranty, so it's covered. I am, however, quite upset about this because I've never has a car with a replaced engine. The dealership in my town is small, and I'm concerned the techs have never done this. Should I be concerned about this and the reliability of the replaced engine? Are there other issues I should be aware of? To me, this will also diminish the resale value of the vehicle.
Right now, I'm not sure I want to keep the car. I would appreciate any feedback you would provide. Thanks.

How did they come to this determination? Was the engine clattering or what are the syntoms? And where are you located. My dealer has done engine swaps and more and is extremely qualified.
Perhaps I'm so disappointed that I'm overreacting.
oakcircle, replacing an engine is pretty straight forward, especially in the newer cars. If you have the steps on what to pull off to get the engine out, it will slide out rather easily. I think the bigger question is whether they are going to give you a rebuilt engine or a new engine off of the assembly line. That is the question I would be asking. Based on the year of car, I am willing to bet that they are going to give you a rebuilt engine.
As for it affecting the worth of the car, I don't see that being a negative in the big scheme of things. If anything, you may find that it will increase the value of the car as the engine is now newer than the rest of the car and therefore "the car will last longer". This is where explaining that the motor was replaced due to a bad oil pump and not because of over revving or the like is going to play a big factor. This is where you may want to get into the back pocket of the service advisor and "help them" make up the service entry so it reads that it was due to component failure, not car abuse. That will help ensure the value is maintained.

Is Jackson Imports doing the work? They worked on my XJR and XKR that I had at the time when I lived in MS. They did OK work but I would explore options if I had a major repair like an engine exchange.
