Default is the 8AT slow and cliunky? should i reset the memory?

I've been feeling annoyed with how sluggish and laggy my 8AT has been. takes a while to decide to downshift and find the right gear. I find myself having to put it in sport often.

I've been driving my XJ and my wifes QX50 (infiniti suv) back to back frequently these days....the CVT on the QX is a lot quicker to react, making the whole car feel faster, albeit its a 4cyl turbo with 60 less HP.

is it possible to reset the transmission adaptive memory? i know for a fact the previous owner was an old guy, maybe he really drove it slow...and the poor transmission things its an 80 yr old man.

My XJR has lightning fast shifts and I can't really even feel them. It will skip shift from 8th to 3rd so fast it's scary!
What engine do you have?

I would at least get the fluid level checked because the 8 speed is known to be very smooth.

My mechanic told me you can indeed reset transmission adaptations. I think it required SDD. I’m not sure if it is harmless though.

How many miles on the car?
I would start with a fluid check. That can cause everything your seeing.
Any chance you can get a deep scan in case any transmission codes are present?

30k miles on the car.

i need to make an appointment to get 2 rims fixed, i should just get around to scheduling that and have them check the transmission fluid and mounts. I also think i need to replace the SC coupler
