XJL Hard Reset
Has any one tried to do it in new Jaguar XJL 3.0D ?
I have tried to do the hard reset by removing positive clamp from battery module and left it for few minutes then reattached it to the battery again.
This has reset only the trip computer and the clock ( also parking brake calibration ).
I thought it would reset the suspensions but practically it didn't.
Would any other things (ecu program ) be affected by disconnecting the battery?
Any idea ? please reply

Hi, I am not sure I can help but someone will in good time.
I think the hard reset will only reset the ECU and I am not sure of the XJ being that computorised but I am unknowing.
Hope you can sort it out without too much hassle as it's a Lovely Jaguar!
If I were you I'd be digging in the manual, are there settings you can adjust manually? Sorry i am assuming here!
Good Luck! Stu

disconnecting does nothing. You have to discharge all the cars capacitors(mini batteries to keep volatile memories alive) Just disconnect the positive and negative cables from the battery and hold them together for 10 or more seconds. This is a hard REBOOT of the cars computers, just like a reboot or restart of your locked up PC thats doing stupid stuff. It does nothing for programming or other learned adaptation store in a NON VOLATILE memory. But can fix stupid operation and weird stuff that sometimes happens because of computer issues. Like say a seat that just decides to stop working, reboot and all is good again.
