Hi, I have a MY2014 XJL Supercharged with a VIN after V58603 that should have updated timing chain tensioners. The codes that the computer was reporting before I cleared it were P0019 (Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Potion Correlation Bank 2 Sensor 'B'), P0306 (Cylinder 6 Misfire), P0308 (Cylinder 8 Misfire), P0300 (Cylinder Misfire Detected Random Cylinders), P0016 (Crankshaft Position - Cam Shaft Correlation Bank 1 Sensor 'A'), P0305 (Cylinder 5 Misfire), P0301 (Cylinder 1 Misfire), U0001 (High Speed CAN Communication Bus), P054C (Cold Start Exhaust 'B' Camshaft Position Timing Over-Advanced Bank 2), and P1315 (Igniter Circuit Malfunction No. 4). After cranking the engine over a few times, P054C and P0019 came back. I've poked the driver side timing chain down through the oil filler hole and it moved down about 0.5".
That engine sounds terrible!
Hard to tell for sure but it sounds to me like the timing is way out, pistons could be hitting valves and 0.5" timing chain slack is excessive, so combined with all those codes my best guess is that the timing chain has become way too loose and skipped a few teeth on the sprockets.
I have done the "push the chain through the oil fill hole" test a few times and my chain barely moves at all, maybe 1 mm.
Have a look at that part of the chain again (use a torch/flashlight), if the car has the updated timing gear it will show three links across and if it has the old gear it will show nine links across.
Old gear = greater likelihood the chain has become too loose, new gear = smaller likelihood but still possible.
my car sounds very similar.. Couldnt tell if it was rod knock or timing chain contact.... Can the timing components be replaced after a failure/chain stretch to salvage the motor, or is it game over when this happens?

If the timing has gone so far out of whack that the pistons are hitting the valves then it's game over for that engine, but if the valves and pistons are OK then it can usually be salvaged with new timing gear.
Your best bet would be to get a borescope down the spark plug holes to check pistons and valves.
