Default Bertone B99 XJ

I have always thought that the XJ from around 2006 to 2010 was the last truly lovely looking Jaguar saloon. The XK became more angular in 2006 and the XKRS was just plain ugly IMHO.
Jags have always been so much about style and class and not following the square stance of other car makers. The current range I am sure are very well made and engineered and reliable but in my opinion they have lost their soul and individuality...

Styling wise, just another range of uninspiring looking cars copied from other brands..

XF looks like a Vauxhall, XJ looks like a cheap poor mans Bentley, F-Type is a sad copy of a Ferrari California. A load of dull SUV's copied from the Range Rover Cheshire

Jaguar has just become another premium brand without any difference, they are now just like Mercedes or BMW or Audi or Lexus...

I feel a bit sad about it all...

This Bertone concept was just about the most beautiful thing Jaguar could have created...

Ho hum... I suppose I am just a dinosaur.. we will all be driving Elon Musk's autonomators soon, watching TV in the car...

😳😳😳😳

I am also not keen on modifying Jaguars, I believe they need to be kept original and they were made that way for a reason. I have tried to keep her as original as possible..
One thing I DID do was to replace the absolutely terrible XK exhaust system, it was the Achilles heel of the early models... a useless horrible 5 muffler system with a series of squashed pipes which led to back pressure and restricting performance.
I replaced it with a mid box and two end boxes with 2.5 all stainless pipe from Cat back for 600 all. I could have had the inlet and exhaust manifolds ceramic coated but that would have added another 600 and is not really necessary on a GT...
Apart from that just the grille and white reflectors and a couple of little subltle cosmetic touches here and there..
I do however wish that it had been fitted with a mechanical LSD like previous Jags from the 70s and 80s
With all of the power going to the rear and no weight over the back wheels it can be a bit slippy in anything other than very dry. Ford's stingy accountants deemed the basic ESP sufficient in the late 90s but it really is very poor..

Styling is subjective. The Retro look had to end at some point and and the X351 still a great looking sedan by todays standards. We had 95, 00, 05 and now a 13, each has their merits but the quad headlights is a dated design. The S Type did not age well either. The latest XK is very good looking, I like the fancy factory aero muscle stuff. Anyways at least we don’t have a large kidney grille that BMW is pushing so hard to get audience to approve.

It may not be perfect but it sure beats driving a Honda Fit or a Toyota Prius. Carry on.

I've noticed that the new Volvos look a lot like that Bertone concept.

I kinda like that the X351 is a poor man's Bentley
