My left rear open-baffle woofer made an awful blown noise in bass-heavy songs. I noticed that black adhesive seal between the baffle and the speaker housing (see picture) came undone.
Instead of replacing the speaker (a major, major job), I put silicon glue where the black adhesive failed. My caulking skills are not very good but it did the trick. No more rattle! Silicon glue can withstand extreme temperature shifts so hopefully this is a long term solution.
