Default LNAAAA4144AB Harmon Kardon Rear Subwoofer Theoretical Replacement.

While doing other projects I pulled out and tore apart my old broken LNA4144AB rear sub (which I replaced with a used OEM speaker) and measured the ohms/impedance values (which I cannot find cited anywhere.)

This is a thread for the benefit of others, and my future benefit if my 2nd rear sub ever blows.

Each coil on my rear sub measure at just about 5 ohms. I suspect a 6x9 with dual 4-ohm coils would suffice just fine, or two 4-ohm subs if the rear deck could be made to fit a left and right speaker.

As it so happens there now appears to be a couple of nearly direct replacement for as little as $75 with 2x 4 ohm connector sets on one speaker:

Perhaps there are others, but maybe this will help somebody.

Thanks

Also, these threads have some info on alternative options for the rear dual-coil 6x9 subwoofer. A search of the X308 forum turns up a lot. Seems like the X308 crowd is working on this issue more than X300 owners, probably because there are lot more X308s out there.

And of course, one can easily replace the rotted surround (which is what fails) for about $5-10 as I recall with a kit.

Default Fitting under sub-mesh cover

Ferrariguy - does the speaker you mention fit under the original grill in the rear parcel shelf?

Although I have not had those speakers in-hand I have to imagine they'd physically fit. The outer perimeter is clearly the same shape and size as the OEM one. Depth would be a concern but I the retro-sound one, at least, is not nearly as deep. There is a fairly thick paper paper ring around the perimeter of the speaker, and is fitted into a plastic spacer that lifts it about 3/4 off the deck. Both of those might need to be replicated on the new speaker which might be *undersized* in some ways.

Another option that *looks* viable is to use a Harman Kardon 6x9 R53 R50 speaker from a mini-cooper. They pop up on ebay and seem to be connected similarly as the Jag speakers:
