Default A/C thinks it's COLD outside....Help!

Since we drive the 2014 XJL maybe 1200 miles a year, it rarely does anything besides treat us like royalty. However, today we got a glimpse at how, "the other half", lives...no A/C during a short drive when outside air temps are 91 degrees

The control panel shows "CLIMATE OFF" despite all attempts to adjust things. I then noticed that the main menu Climate box has an Ice/Snowflake icon. While it would be somewhat safe to assume that the car thinks that there's ice and snow outside or it turns the A/C off....but what does a person need to do in order to replace what needs replacing?

In a perfect world this is something that I can be walked through in order to make a DIY fix. The idea of taking the car to a dealer isn't fun, because my wife has a hard time getting into and out of the second car, my XKR. Thanks in advance for any guidance!!
