Default Counterfeit Parts From Jaguar Dealership - RESOLVED

I need help. I just purchased a R Badge Part # C2D31140. I paid the dealer $54 for an online purchase. The badge arrived in a torn, opened Jaguar Package. I have purchased items from other Jaguar dealers in the past....but this time the badge looks like the type sold on ebay for $5. The warning was the torn open bag with the Jaguar label and part number, but the quality is poor. I called the dealer and they claim they ordered it from an outside source, then sent it to me. How do I contact Jaguar to let them know that I purchased from a Jaguar parts department, but received counterfeit goods.

IMHO If your dealer has been good in the past you might want to contact them and let them know of your concerns as you may need them in the future. If the parts department isn't cooperative you may want to speak the dealership GM. Failing that I would contact Jaguar.

I agree that you should first speak with dealer management. The response you get might dictate your next steps.

I spent 30 years in dealership service and parts departments. Representing Brand-X parts as genuine factory parts is bad mojo and is definitely frowned upon by the manufacturer. Manufacturers typically (and rightfully) insist that non-factory parts be clearly disclosed as such. I never worked at a Jag dealer but a month's pay says Jaguar has the same requirement.

Cheers

If you paid using a credit card, you can dispute the charge and get a refund. To succeed, you must follow the rules: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/article...t-card-charges

You might not be pleased with the quality of the part but that doesn't mean or prove that it's a counterfeit.

I'd be far more certain of myself and have evidence in hand before making accusations.

Can you upload some photos of the badge (including the rear showing the peel-off plastic)? The genuine part should have a slightly bevelled edge to the green and red circle and the dividing line between the two colours (only a fraction of a mm but viewable if you reflect light across the face). Most of the aftermarket ones just use a decal or paint with a flat finish.

I know it isn't comforting, but just because a package is opened, doesn't mean the part is bogus, or "previously used". Many times, a package gets opened, in order to compare one part with another, or a part is opened in anticipation of being used, but then not needed. The dealer isn't going to "eat" the brand new part, just because the package is no longer "factory sealed"....

Quite right, but the original posting says that the dealer admitted getting the part from "an outside source" which, together with the (apparent) low quality appearance, does sound a bit suspicious.

Worth following up on, IMO.

Posting an allegation that a dealer has supplied counterfeit goods is NOT the way to resolve this issue.

You are clearly never going to be happy with the badge supplied. It's a $54 part which YOU THINK may be counterfeit.

Send it back to the dealer for a refund or, if the dealer rejects your claim, get a refund from your credit card company.

Thank you all for your input. The dealer was never mentioned intentionally to provide him an opportunity to rectify the situation. A replacement part was sent, in a sealed factory bag. There is an obvious difference in quality. I think he was also a victim of an outside source the first time. I am glad an OEM part was resent.

Thanks for coming back to post the result. Good to hear it was a satisfactory outcome.

I've added 'RESOLVED' to your thread title.
