Default Dealer Replacing Upper Strut Mount @ 23,000 miles

Guys,

I have a 2011 XJL. Recently, I've been hearing this cracking noise in my steering when i turn. I took it in, and apparently, the issue is with the upper strut mount.

My concern is why are they having to replace the strut mount at 23,000 miles? Is their possibly something else going on? Prior to this, I owned a Lexus, and the only thing i ever changed was brake pad and rotors. Maybe I'm being a little paranoid but i think it's too early..Any thoughts??

I wouldn't worry about it. The strut mount is not a major mechanical concern. Any number of things could be motivating them to replace the part. It may be that perhaps the strut mount nuts were not torqued properly (rare, but happens) and even though they could just torque the strut mount nuts they are ensuring you are getting a proper 100% repair by eliminating any possible wear.

A number of other possibilities, but I think the most important thing to realize here is that Jag is taking care of you. Also, Lexus has problems too...maybe not in your case but hey have their horror stories too.

Have you ever heard of a Jaguar accelerating on its own without being able to stop it?

That was a prius problem only wasn't it? I own a 2007 Lexus LS-460 that I bought brand new, zero problems so far.

And you are correct, it's good that Jaguar took care of him replacing the mount. Better safe than sorry.

Be thankful for problems that show up and get corrected while you are under warranty. No car is perfect.

Picking up the car today. I understand that no car is perfect. it just seemed to early. This wasn't intended as a "bash" jaguar post.

No car is perfect, but some are more perfect than others ! Yes, Lexus are at the top of the heap, (or so it is said, I've never owned one), but others are not far behind.

No sir...The people that died in the uncontrolled acceleration problem were in a Lexus.

I assume you are referring to the ES300 crash that started the media bashing of Toyota/Lexus because a CHP officer (I think) died in the crash and he didn't know how to turn off the car. That crash was determined to be caused by the dealer installing a 2nd set of floor mats on top of the factory mats. The 2nd set of mats got caught in the accelerator pedal. Not exactly the fault of Toyota's design, IMO.
