Not really EliteZags. This problem came to light by accident. I was helping a guy install a big screen in one thread and he said he has had 2 or 3 of them burn up already. He also noted the screen was hot/warm to touch. He wanted to know why this was happening. It took a lot of digging but I discovered the built in cooling system for the dash screens.
The ONLY solution is to use the factory cards like the Merryway unit does then the factory cooling system for the dash instruments AND the center stack will operate. On ALL the other big screens your NOT cooling the Android screen (and please note this part!) you have also lost the cooling for the instrument panel. It's just getting hotter and hotter as well as all the wear and tear high temperatures do to electronics.

can you clarify does this mean replacing only the AC panel will affect cooling system of either the AC panel or also the main touchscreen (assuming leaving the original 8" screen in place)? are you saying there's no way of making this AC panel last long term?
Sorry EliteZags for the confusion! I did not explain this very well and it is a bit complicated?
I have copied my original post on this below. If your interested it's in the giant thread I started years ago when I first became interested in changing to a larger screen. Now that thread is so large it's almost impossible to find anything! The short answer to your question is yes. The TSD (Touch Screen Display) panel controls the cooling system for the dash instruments. So again ANY screen install that does not use these two circuit boards from the original TSD will leave the dash cooling system inoperative. Note the factory system has two temperature sensors. One in the TSC and the other in the IP (Instrument Panel)
OK that changes things! I had the car apart so never powered up the AC to check if there was airflow. So your in uncharted territory here?
Maybe there is something in the shop manual? Now you have me wondering if I have any air flow out those ducts?
After some time researching this I have found a little bit of information but the entire system seems to be unknown?
Here is a diagram from the shop manual showing the instrument panel cooling ducts.
Now note item 4 as it's called an Instrument Panel cooling fan. So maybe just airflow with no additional cooling/heating?
I think you need to get the car hooked up to SDD. There are several or more codes associated with that cooling fan.
Here are 3 possible errors. Note what I underlined in red. Possible broken ground wire.
It's called the instrument panel cooling fan but look at the duct going to the right from behind the IP. I "think" that is the vent that blows on the back of the Navigation/HVAC center panels that is getting hot on your car. Finally found the part number too!
This is C2D7495 and I have found them used on EBay for under $100 including the ducts.
Here is an actual picture of the assembly.
I also found just the blower on EBay used for under $50. With the lack of information on this blower it must not fail very often so I would be OK installing a used part.
Here is a description of how the system works and note the mention of the 10A fuse in the CJB (Central Junction Box).
Since you have installed an aftermarket center screen note the following in the above paragraphs!
The TSD (Touch Screen Display) MUST send a signal to the IP to control the cooling fan BUT you have removed the factory TSD and replaced it all with aftermarket. I don't think you can fix this problem and it's just one of the things you lose with that kind of replacement. I think you will have continuing heat problems until the unit fails completely. It's just how electronics work and Jaguar would not have installed such a complicated and expensive system unless it was needed.
Again I recommend the Merryway unit over the other big screens because it requires you to install 2 boards from the factory front end. This keeps EVERYTHING working that was in the stock XJ. This was an absolute requirement for me when I consider upgrades.
Now one hail mary pass to fix this and it would be a hack suggestion? Just wire the blower to a 12V source so it's always on anytime the car is on. Only problem with that is again note the blower is a variable speed blower run in PWM over the CAN bus. You no longer have access to any of that. I don't know what the fan would do if just wired straight to 12VDC 100% of the time? Might be worth a try?
sorry I'm not sure if you answered or understood what I was asking above? I'm not considering replacing the main 8" nav touchscreen display at all, only the AC panel below it (since that is the topic of this thread)
OK sorry for getting off track!
Looking at that aftermarket screen I would simply ask the vendor does this keep intact the factory cooling circuits for the IP and the touch screen. They may not know either? Since the control boards for the temperature and fan assembly are in the 8" factory screen maybe it does still work?
Another big concern is that AC panel was changed as the years went by. So look at your top row of buttons. Does it match what they are selling?
The pictures don't really explain things well. They have a VERY confusing statement about Jaguars all terrain mode?? Maybe this was left over from a Land Rover unit?
Can I ask why you want to change that panel and stay with the small 8" factory screen?

mainly due to this forum's consensus that the AC panel is a simple plug and play swap out, while the 10" touchscreen seems to be a nightmare to install with gutting out the entire interior, programming, cooling issues etc as chronicled in your very own 13 page thread
MY2016 so its at least not the old slow touchscreen interface, larger screen would be nice but just doesn't seem worth the cost/hassle/risks.
AC panel is an intriguing alternative to scratch that itch and modernize the interior a bit which is the one aspect Jaguar has been a step behind in
-also I think the all terrain stuff was clueless fluff added by the seller/distributor making the listing (not the mfg) based on the driving modes screen (eco, traction etc), the firmware version is Jaguar V103 and several posters have stated it maintains all functionality of the ac panel

If I may butt in...at least for me, its purely cosmetic, as I just dig the look of the AC screen. As for the larger 10" screen, I just don't think its worth the hassle. I have a UAD wireless Carplay unit installed and I love it. All it basically does is exchange the factory nav system with the Carplay; everything else stays the same. I would love to just have this current setup showing on a bigger screen without all the extra Android stuff.
As I understand it, all sound that comes from those Android units has to run through the AUX port; do I have that right? If so, I'm definitely not interested as my AUX-in only seems to play on one side of the car's speakers and the quality is not up to snuff.
Ok thanks for the explanation and both of you are not wrong! In my long thread I admitted that when I started the big screen install I had cabin fever from the virus lock down and was bored. I was looking for something to do!
In fact if this panel was out back then I would probably have included it with my big screen install!
I use the USB port of the stock stereo. I also read about sound quality issues using the AUX input. I did verify that it worked but since I did not install a SIM card that's as far as I went.
So I am very interested and hope you can post back how it went and any plus or minus features as well.

I'll most likely pull the trigger on it today or this weekend.
I wish we could somehow just take the guts of the OEM 8" screen and slap it onto the back of a standalone 10.25" screen. Same goes for updating the instrument cluster. Ah well, maybe one day.
I ordered one of these AC panels, hoping it doesn’t affect the cooling. I’ll post an update when I get it in. If nothing else, it replaces the horrid stock volume knob. It’s like twisting a nipple!
I’m looking for a solution for the upper screen. Not sure if I want an android unit or just a wireless CarPlay adapter. I really just want Waze on the screen, but a bigger more modern screen would be nice.

Could you share a link for the one you purchased?
I never thought of the volume knob like that but I guess maybe you're right.
The UAD Carplay unit I have allows you to use Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Waze. Works great. But it won't show you prompts and directions on the instrument cluster anymore. And most times the voice directions don't play over the car speakers but I'm not sure that that's not my fault somehow.
You know I thought the same thing? I love the bigger screen but I am usually in the factory screen most of the time.
That would be a much cheaper option I would think too?

Seems the price has gone up a tiny bit but still not bad considering the price of OEM nav updates plus the additional features. You can pretty much control all the Carplay stuff using Siri voice commands.
But it would all look and feel so much better on the 10" screen.

so yours actually says shipped out? I ordered from that same 'Fords' seller this week also then got this message:
Dear friends, the factory has tested the product according to your model information, and it is suitable for your model. We have packed it and can deliver it immediately, but the factory just called me. They found that your price was wrong when they prepared to deliver the goods. They want me to check. I have checked price of your order and it is really very low. The discount setting should be incorrect. The factory wants me to apologize to you and ask if you are willing to pay the difference of $65 to buy this Product

difference for car for radio
USD 65.00
I used the $8 off $200 coupon on the product page, and a new user $25 off $250 AliExpress coupon which AliExpress should be covering
I blasted the seller for trying to bait and switch after customer purchased at price they listed themselves and demanded they ship or would file compliant with AliExpress. but still doesn't seem like they'll ship and will likely have to re-order from the other link I posted above
I will look into the UAD, but I would need Waze to announce over the speakers - like “police ahead”
Thanks for the link.
If you have the factory audio set to AUX while using Waze, then you will hear voice directions for sure. But sometimes they also play over bluetooth. Additionally, incoming text messages will sometimes be read over bluetooth and sometimes not. I'm fairly sure I just didn't set something up correctly.
EDIT TO MY PRIOR POST RE A CHEAPER SCREEN: NEVERMIND, I'm stupid and don't read things fully

I just checked and it says: This order will ship in 6 days. If not, your refund will be issued automatically.
Any updates on these? I still haven't pulled the trigger myself yet.
The latest firmware is V110. The biggest change is that "AUTO LED" has turn on when Rear Seat Control is in auto. Of course, we still can't control it directly from rear seat.
