Does the temperature guage tell truth.
I have not encountered the water pump failure yet with 32K miles on my 2014 V6 but certainly anticipate the issue between now and 50K miles. I monitor the temperature gauge as a matter of course and smell the engine when I shut it off in my garage. So far, I'm good.
My question is will the temperature gauge rise beyond it's normal center position when things overheat to tell me I've got the problem or is it limited like some American cars and lie to me.
Those of you who have had the experience, please tell me will I see the gauge go beyond center? Will I get a low coolant warning?

Do not rely on the instrument cluster temperature gauge to indicate the correct, current coolant temperature. Use a smart phone with an app such as Torque to connect with the PCM via a Bluetooth interface that plugs into the vehicle's OBD port.
Some instrument clusters will not indicate a change in coolant temperature between 96 C and 129 C. Unless you're stuck in heavy traffic on the freeway/motorway, normal operating temperature of most modern engines is between 90 C and 95 C if the thermostat is functioning correctly.

that's a great idea i need to locate one. thanks
Thanks guys. What I understand from you is that the temperature gauge may not rise to indicate the coolant is low/gone and engine temperature is rising. Will the low coolant warning be dependable?
Anxiety over this is driving me nuts. Might be worth it to just get a new pump put in for peace of mind.

The water pump is an issue with the 5.0 litre engines.
Check the coolant level at least weekly and don't wait for the instrument cluster warning. Any loss of coolant is cause for concern and must be found and corrected.
