DPF full see handbook
Hi guys,
Just had this error message come up on my Jaguar XJ. Only had the car couple of weeks and I'm concerned!
Is it an expensive fix or is it just a quick job. Can I do this myself what does it need to go to the dealer?

Also just to mention, I did 2000 miles in 3 days last week, I usually do 15 miles a day but they are slow miles takes around 45 minutes through a city centre. Had a merc and a bmw over the last 5 years, both diesel same journey but never seen a DPF message
Is the message shown with a yellow warning sign, or a red stop sign?
If red someone else can hopefully advise, but you should see a yellow warning some time before it gets to that state. If it is yellow then the owners manual explains what to do: Take it for a "spirited" drive up and down the motorway until the message disapears (typically 30-60 minutes). I believe the drive must be uninterupted for the regen process to complete properly, but I have not yet had to do it on mine so can only repeat what I've read elsewhere.

Check your engine oil for any signs of it:
1. rising (yes!)
2. being diluted by diesel
change the oil immediately if either is the case as engine destruction is liable to be next.
The diesel with DPF is not a car that likes the type of driving you do so consider swapping to a non-DPF ASAP.

Thanks folks. I had a look at the oil gauge using the service menu and levels look ok. Had a look in the head and all looks ok. Sadly only had the car a week so don't really want to be trading it in already! This is my 3rd diesel (e250 CDi, 420 bmw and a Nissan Juke (lol))and have been doing the same journey for 5 years so it's disappointing if it is the case that the jag isn't up to it.
