Default Engine Oil Overfilled

So I'm still getting used to the new Jag and it's silly electronic dipstick. I've checked it multiple times over the past week and its always said Level OK, sometimes after sitting for 10 mins or sometimes overnight. Suddenly last night it says Overfilled after the car had been sitting for a few hours. Checked again today after it had been sitting for hours and still says Overfilled.

I guarantee no one has touched this oil. How can it go from OK to Overfilled over the course of a week and a half? Any ideas?

Are you losing antifreeze?
That led me to the dipstick for the oil once.
I found my antifreeze in my oil pan.

do make sure that you put the correct level of oil, the AWD version takes .5 less than the RWD.

Thanks, but I don't have the AWD and the last oil change was done by the dealer I bought the car from.

Just checked the coolant. Level looks the same as last time. I'll trying siphoning a bit of oil out later and see what the sensor tells me. Has anybody had a faulty sensor on these engines?

had a sensor gasket leak, but didn't hear many stories about the sensor failing. Though it could be a possibility.

So last night it went back to Level OK all its own, but I ended up siphoning out about a quart just in case. Now it reads 2 hashmarks below Max. I'll keep an eye on it to see how much it fluctuates and then top-off if necessary. I can see this new contraption will take some getting used to.

I've always just put in what the manual said. Either 4 quarts or five and it always ended up just a hair under full on the dipstick. I'm guessing that didn't work for this one?

Oil was last changed at the dealership (non-Jag) before sale, so I have no idea how much they did or didn't put in.

XJ8JR if it were me I would have the oil changed at a dealership very soon as these engines will not last if the proper iol is not used. There are small passages in the lubrication system that can become clogged if the proper iol is not used all the time, IMHO

I'm taking it in this Saturday to have some leaks addressed, so maybe they'll throw in an oil change since they've got to remove the pan anyway. If not, I'll plan on doing it myself afterwards.

I've only seen the sensor leaking through the O-ring, but haven't seen an actual failure of the sensor itself.

If you're taking it in, they should connect SDD anyway to check for codes - might be a DTC logged for the sensor.

Just checked the oil again on my lunch break just now and it reads Max again. How can anyone trust these things?

Are you planning on using the Jag spec oil? You can't change the oil unless you have the oil. It is very hard to find. You can use a blacklight to see if they used the proper oil. I have checked and it does fluoresce under blacklight like they say. Jag charges $150 for an oil change btw.

Sorry just saw about the pan - if they are replacing the pan, I cannot see them reusing the same oil.

I saw in a different thread that Castrol Edge/Titanium meets the Jag specs. Has anyone else confirmed this?

No not always. The below oil meets the specs. Note that "Jaguar" is actually on the label.

I will confirm also that Castrol Edge Titanium does NOT meet Jaguar specs.

I found an old thread on the UK Jag forums with this link:

Amazon Amazon

According to the label, it meets the 925-A spec.
