Engine ticking sound
I am a new owner of a 2011 jaguar XJL.. I am the second owner and have about 30k miles on it. I noticed when I start my vehicle there is a slight ticking sound that gets quieter after engine settles but is still there. I noticed a porsche at the dealer sounding similar so I ignored it. So I am reaching out to fellow Jag owners for advice.

Especially if it is a non standard fitment or an upgrade ie Stainless Steel
It's normal.
The ticking is a result of the very high pressure from the Direct Injection fuel system in the V8. Only noise you'd need to concern yourself with would be if you get a whine from that system's fuel pump (like the one that failed on me twice in my previous car, a BMW 5GT).

Oh okay thank you guys very much. I was worried for a second there. Sorry to hear about your bmw. I am gonna have to google that 5GT havent seen one before. Thanks for the help peoples.
Calhouns: I had the same ticking sound but mines was a little louder of a ticking sound all the time, it got louder as you lift the hood... I took mines in to jag dealership, and right away the tech said it was my high pressure fuel pumps..@57,000 mile.. got them replaced under CPO, I would recommend taking to dealer to make sure.. it doesn't hurt to ask. but it will hurt with the $1,800 dollar bill if it does go bad, IJS..
Did the car sit for a while before you changed the oil? If so, the timing of when you noticed the sound could be coincidental, because it sounds to me like injector noise. Run a couple rounds of BG 44k fuel system cleaner through the fuel tank. It eliminated a little ticking sound I was hearing in my car, especially at low idle. Snake oil is seldom the answer to real problems, but if dirty injectors are your ticking problem, 44k is the answer.
Or techron . you guys should also be doing a supercharged oil change if your car is say 5 year old the oil will be dark brown by that age and smell worse than eggs that are off . also the supercharged oil level will be down by that age of car or over 50k miles . in short it needs changed

IT dont . can be change with engine and supercharger in car , see my thread on the 5l xkr how to . it really is a Must as some of the supercharged oil over the years has evaporated if you profess to love your car DO it
My wife's V6 F-Pace makes a very pronounced ticking noise at idle. I mentioned it at the last service 2 weeks ago, they said it was totally normal.
My V8 XJ makes a very light tick, always has.
Not worried at all.

Yes I read your repair and it was good one but I won't be doing it that way.
Way too much potential for dropping all kinds of things into the deep recesses of the engine.
The blower will come off to do the front snout and the rear water manifold.
I will do it correctly at that time by turning the blower upside down and draining it.
