Default Headlights

Went to the dealer for the same issue, was freaking out as the brights flashed periodically. You have to go into your settings on the steering wheel and go into the lights assist menu. You will see 2 options Left Side and Right Side. Then change the headlights to the right side of the road. What happens is there is a camera in the rear view mirror that if it detects brights objects that appear to be coming it will flash brights for that car to tell automatically that its driving on the wrong side of the road. lol stupid feature

Default One intermittent H/L

Our 2008 XJ has had an intermittent left low beam headlight for at least a year. I had replaced the ballast and also the bulb. I was OK for a few days and then went back to what it was doing. I find that if I turn off the headlights lights and turn them back on most of the time they both come on at first, then the left may go out again. Last week I believe they both went off briefly at the same time, so I am going to have to face this. Any thoughts about what to try first - possibly the stalk switch?

It took me a while, but the intermittent HID headlight problem on our 2008 XJ is now fixed. My friend who told me he knew about HID headlights first got me a ballast, and then he replaced the bulb. No change. He gave up. I also threw up my hands for a while, reading about bad stalk switches other Jaguar owners had experienced and other possibilities. Fortunately, I found a wiring diagram on line, dug into the relays and fuses in the system, and using substitution of components side to side eventually found the problem. I am well versed in pulling the front bumper cover now too (4 times), which you have to do when getting into the headlights. All it was: a bad igniter, which is the base the HID bulb plugs into that is held in place by a wire clip inside the back of the headlight. HID headlight bulbs are sold separately or with the igniter. When all this started, I did not know anything about HID headlights, ballasts, igniters, or even that our 2008 XJ had HID headlights. Now I know. And now I have two full time low beam headlights again.

Default Lights coming on when turning

I noticed someone posted that the lights come on when using the turn signal, seems to happen when the stalk clicks back and theres a brief flash.
I haven't tried all permatations of ligh settings as it's always on auto, but I'd be interested to know if this is just a problem in that set up.
