My 2008 XJR has an "Auto" setting for the headlights. When I use it, the lights do not turn off when I turn off the ignition. The "headlight on" beeper sounds and I have to turn the switch to "off". This has just started. I have owned the car three years with no such problem previously.

 

Have you tried jiggling the stalk to see if they turn off? I have a similar problem. Never does it at the dealer, of course.

 

Thanks. I had not tried that (but will). I had understood that it may be some type of problem in the turn signal stalk (dealer wants $$$$ to check it out). Ever heard of that?

You'll probably have more luck in the X350/X358 forum.
Certainly in the X100 XKs there have been problems with soldered joints going bad in the indicator stalk, might be worth a search.
I hope you find a solution without causing your wallet too much grief!

I have this same issue with my X351. Sometimes if I leave it in auto, and turn the ignition off, the car acts like I need to turn the lights off. Sometimes it flashes the warning on and off. Another issue I have is that sometimes, mostly when it's a little cloudy outside, and sometimes when it's clearly sunny, the auto lights turns on and off by themselves. It looks like I'm flashing the car in front of me.

I've taken video of all of this and will be dropping it off next month.
