Heavy Steering and Dynamic Mode not available
Greetings all. I have a couple of interesting issues that seem to be related as it has happend twice now. My steering has gone to a heavier effort, and dynamic mode is not available. I've owned the car for a year now and about a month after purchasing it the dynamic mode went unavailable and I noticed the heavier steering. Oddly, I like the heavier effort as it seems to have far more feedback compared to the normal and dynamic modes so I haven't worried about it, but I like the dynamic mode throttle response and stiffer shocks on the freeway, so I'd really like it to work. The car went to the mechanic for a couple of months (chasing a fuel gremlin which ended up being jumped pump cam timing). When we got it back dynamic mode was back and so was the lighter normal steering. Now, here about 6 weeks later, we're back to heavier steering effort and no dynamic mode. I have seen a TSB for the F-type where these exact issues were associated with the need for an added ground wire, but have found nothing for an XJ. Being that much is shared between the platforms I was curious if anyone had run into a similar issue, and if resolved, what the problem was. FYI yes, the battery is new and charged and the monitor appropriately reset, and no, I don't see any codes related to such things. Thank you much in advance for any real solutions.
I am. Purchased a scanner with the JLR software installed. When I get some time this weekend I intend to rescan and look at the specific data as opposed to just doing a general scan. Thinking that may show me something the simple scan for codes has not.
So interesting development... Problem found and resolved. I was under the car today to do sway bar bushings and end links, and find a connector hanging loose in my face. Turns out it came from the steering rack. Snapped it back into place, and VOILA! Steering is normal, dynamic mode is back.
