Default how clean or polish reverse cam lens - possible scratch on it

first, id like to say the position of the rear cam is STUPID. it gets dirty super easy, but also doesnt really give you a good indication of how close you are if you're trying to get into a tight spot.

never the less, i think theres a light scratch on my lens, is there away i can polish it off, or replacing just the lens without changing the whole camera?

Mine was very cloudy when I bought my xj. I found that it was just buildup on the lense. I had excellent results using a automotive polishing compound. It’s crystal clear now.

carzaddict, I would say to find yourself some liquid rubbing compound and use that. I have a bottle of "3M Perfect It III - Stage 2". This is a liquid 2000 grit rubbing compound. I find it very useful on the car. I call it my wonder product. I use it on every part of the car (headlights, paint, chrome, windshield, etc). It is great for removing the haze in the headlights, those swirl marks in the paint, will even remove scratches in the windshield with a bit of work. The only caution that I will say is that when using it on the paint, you want to do things by hand. If you use a power buffer, it can burn through the paint on the edges where things make a rapid change in direction (or on a flat surface if the buffer is left in one spot too long).

thanks for the suggestion. ill look into that. its very strange how the air moves around this car.....dirt just collects on the back side...its bizarre. I havent been able to spend enough time to diagnose if its dirt or scratches. if i use the polishing compound, am i risking damaging the lens more (if it is infact scratched)?

carzaddict, you are not going to make the scratch worse. Just don't take a power tool and use the polishing compound with it. Then you really mess it up. But, you can't make it worse using your hands.
