When I set the unit to rear and turn on the rear a/c to full blast its tied to the front - meaning I cant get the front off and the rear on independently - I click on rear (the rear is lit) turn up the AC and then the front blower gets loud and the front and rear start blowing - very frustrating - any help?

 

I wondered the same. I seriously suspect there is no separate fan for the rear. All my other cars in that class had a separate fan for the rear.
Feels like they skimped on this one.

 

And it is not just that the fan is on but there is still air blowing out of the defrost vents near the windshield. I would consider this a biggie guys. How do you call it 4 way climate control is you all use the same fan speed?

 

Good point. I will play with mine a bit. I'll let you know. I don't think my front blows in the case you described. I will double check and let you know. May be something isn't working correctly in yours. I will turn up the back and let you know if the front still blows.
Calling it a real 4 zone would be simply misleading and false if that is the case. Back to my 2002 X5 and my 2008 CLS63 the 4 zone is a real 4 zone with seaparate fans for front and back.
