Default How to remove the alternator on my x351 3.0d

I’ve taken the under tray off-can’t see a thing, can’t get to it from the top as the air intake is in the way and I’ve no idea how to remove that!! I’m desperate now-I must be missing something, thanks in advance

Check "Sticky" section on this forum. You will find an Service & Repair manual. Its almost 90Mb size *.pdf file. Clear pictures and instructions how to remove alternator.

thank you-is it the jag workshop manual? I have that and it tells me to remove the turbo bypass and undo an engine mount and Jack the engine up from the sump!! How daft for a serviceable part but if that’s the only way then there it is-I initially just wanted to replace the clutch pulley but it had no cover on and I haven’t got enough leverage to undo the nut and I’m also unsure if it undos conventionally like anti clock then the pulley is threaded-it’s sending me bonkers 😜 thank you though I’ll check if it’s the one I have 🙏

Yep, thats the one. I heard that it would be possible to remove from top on XJ, by removing airpipes etc on front of engine, but in the end it is more work than underneath. Engine need to be tilted only 10-20mm from alternator side. (leave nut loose on the end of threats..) Use wooden blank under sump.
I don´t know how the pulley are mounted on Denso alternator used on 3.0D. It is not mentioned on manual... as usual these workshop manuals are only for dealer services who only replace parts, not repair them...

Thanks Vasari, yes that’s what I essentially did but found it easier to get a bigger gap by removing both engine mounts and jacking the sump protected with a slab of wood-got it out at last and I’m waiting for a repair or another-then I’ve got to get it back in and try and the serpentine belt on correctly though I see the routing in the manual👍🙏

Hi Drfankenfish
Good to hear at you got it out. I took lot of pics of serpentine belt before i touch it, when i changed the timing belt on my 3.0D.
In the end it is harder to get it wrong than correct.
Keep posting how project goes on.
