Default I Can't actually believe I've done this.

So, earlier today, as the temp had just crept above freezing, I took my beloved XK8 Conv out for her weekly breath of fresh air. I got home after about 45mins and started to wipe her down,

To cut a long short, a guy pulled up and we started chatting about the car, before I knew he said "Well, what's your no sell it price?" a bit caught out I came out with a totally outrageous price. We chatted some more and I let him look at my ownership binder that detailed everything that had been done to the car. He left.

Twenty minutes later he returned, just as I was putting the old girl back in the garage, with $2k more in cash than I'd asked for! He knew I didn't want to sell, but he wanted her. So I sold my 2002 XK8 for way more than my 2012 XJ is worth.

My wife thinks I did great, my daughter (she had this crazy idea that it would become her car at 16) has sworn never to speak to me again. I think my daughter is right!

I still can't believe I've done it, I thought I'd get buried in that car.

Anyway, a good bottle of single malt is now half-way trashed.

Well, look at it this way a kitty you loved has gone to a person that will love her as much or, maybe, even more than you did. And isn't that the best way for her to continue her life by being loved and appreciated?

its ok, you made the right move, especially if you truly sold it for more than its worth.

Now you can buy a much better XK (X150) and enjoy the fun in the sun!

well, you could always go off the deep end......https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ckType=listing

It would look good next to the XJ.

Stuart,

If I upgraded from the XK8 to another Jaguar sports car it would be to an F-Type. Don't get me wrong, I like the XK but IMHO they got the front end a bit messy. Later ones were a bit better.

bama,

If I was going to chuck $32k a XK8 V12 (that's what it is), I would be a single parent.

I'm looking at going old school with a Tr 4a IRS, MGA 1500 or Morris Minor Traveler....Perhaps 2/3

I get it, just have always been better at spending other peoples' money rather than my own.

So, are you sure that you prefer the later X150 front end design? Here's a 5.0L XKR-S. Something looks fishy to me ...

Stuart,

When did they do the face lift? I like the later versions but, would I buy one over an F-Type? I guess.....So many choices, not enough cash!

The first face lift was with the 5.0L models in 2010, followed by other facelifts in 2012 and for the limited production XKR-S and XKR-S GT models.

The reason for the similar facial expressions in Post #8, above, is that Jaguars and catfish are both felines. And thanks for raising my status to an old trout from an old fart!

F-type is much closer to sports car side of spectrum than XK, so while handling is vastly improved, it isn't quite as roomy or comfortable as XKs. Before buying your next F-type, please make sure to test drive it over bad pavement to not be left with regrets.
