Ian Callum Speaks on Jaguar
interesting article. Having seen the "behind the scenes of Jaguar" with my trip to London, what he said is echoing what they said there.
As for a car smaller than the XE, I think that would be somewhat of an injustice as the Jaguar line is about luxury and sportiness put together. You get much smaller than the XE and I think you are going to loose the luxury aspect. Granted, it may help in the sportiness aspect though. But, which are they after? I say to keep the cars the size they are but maybe break out a line that is geared more towards luxury and another more towards the sportiness. You could easily take a car like the XJ and give it a suspension that would "float on a cloud" and would be geared around giving a ride like no other vehicle. Yet, you could take the same basic parts of the car and put a high power motor with a track based suspension under it and have a monster for the road. Both cars require the same body structure (super stiff body), but they would be dramatically different in function. This is somewhat done with the XJL (basic) and the XJ Supersport. But, take those differences and make them much, much more polar opposites.

Makes sense that there is no XK replacement. To me, it seems like the luxury GT market is all but dead. These days, "sports cars" are so bloated anyway that you can't tell the difference between a touring coupe and a sports car! No need for a grand tourer!
In the article, Ian Callum says (1) XJ will be replaced soon with something 'more practical', (2) will add more model lines.
How is the current X351 not practical? Too long/big? I know it's a shrinking market but some people like big saloon cars.
My model line ideas = XJ Coupe, XF Cabriolet, XE Cabriolet, a smaller roadster than F-Type, a smaller CUV than F-Pace; also the XK name is too good not to be reinstated.
I agree with one poster that Jaguar should boost customization options like the Germans in order to be profitable, given the lack of sales volume and limited model lines.
Cheers,
Wolfy

For my money Ian C has changed the feel in bad ways and yet such as the XF has never even sold in a year as many as the S-Type did, so the sales do not seem to justify what he's done.
There again, there's a much reduced demand in a very crowded area when you try to compete head on with BMW, Audi etc so maybe Jaguar just have to accept low sales of (getting to be) me-too cars.

"always against the the subject being talked about?" You couldn't be more wrong.. I've only been here 7mos but I have seen nothing in that time that verifies what you say..
