That link doesn't show any 2016 XJRs for $40K. I just searched Cars.com and found only one 2016 XJR with 14,876 miles listed for $59,998. That's $15K/year depreciation, which is not uncommon for this class of luxury sedan.
That's still a lot.
But it pales next to Rolls Royce Ghost, $200k depreciation in 6 years, or $33k/year.

Which all adds up to some great opportunities for us all in the used car market. The fear of expensive repairs (which may or may not materialize) scares the hell out of so many...
I bought my '11 XKR and my '13 XJ SC 5.0 after both had been turned in from single owners after ~ 3 years (one was a lease return and one was a trade-in) with about 10K miles on the clock. Both have been wonderful to own and only out-of-pocket expenses have been annual service bills and tires.
i would also add that the greater Palm Springs area (where I reside) may be (in my opinion IS) the best high-end used car market in the world. People buy very expensive cars here - let them sit in a dry climate for a few years (hardly driving them at all) and then sell them on..... cheap ...... to get into the next one.

But as a rule of thumb, never judge a book by its cover; always get a pre-purchase inspection to save headaches later.
Yep that's why I buy used and my 2014 XJR was an excellent price compared to new. BUT I have it now so I'm the one getting hit!
My old S Type R was an great car when I sold it at 132K miles but after 10+ years and those miles I only got $3500 out of it. The dealer offer was under $3K trade in value!
I hope to ride my XJR for a few years of the depreciation curve.
This is my 2nd Jaguar purchased after it came off a 3 year business lease.
You got to pay to play!
