Default Jaguar Custom XJ HeadLights

Hello Everyone! I have a 2013 Jaguar XJ. I decided to Customize my Headlights because I wasn’t too pleased with the Factory DRL strip and I’ve always wanted to see what it would look like with Halos on The Xenon and Signal Lights. This was a lot more Tedious than expected to Say the Least. But the results were very Promising. Another Reason I Pursued This, was to enhance the Turn Signals as well by hooking up the new AfterMarket Halos and the StripLights. They are Also RGB with at least a hundred Modes. Lastly, I’ve decided to paint the side Reflector in the Headlights( Originally Orange) To Black to match my White On Black XJ. I was very pleased with the results. Here are some Progress Pics.

Please share any thoughts or Questions. This is still in Progress until I fix my hood and Bumper.

I can’t wait to put some lenses on these!

Nice! This is something I've been wanting to do for a cery long time. I can not stand the orange reflector. I also would like to change the lenses on mine. Which I recommend you do as well.

Please let me know the process of removing those lenses. Did you destroy the old one or it came out in one piece after heating?

Some Say the Best Way to do it is in an Oven for 15-20 mins. But I don’t have a dedicated oven, so I just went at it with a heat gun and slowly prying after heating up the corners and edges very well. This takes some time as you’ll have to reheat several times before it even budges sometimes. And yeah that’s about it. The orange Reflectors look terrible i agree. The clear ones in the UK always looked the best to me. I couldn’t find them online so I just decided to paint t it black as my XJ has lots of Black Trim pieces to match. I will update this thread once it’s finished on the car. And yeah 100% new lenses. Butyl headlight sealant is the best for this.

Glad to know the heatgun method works on these cars. I've done headlight mods before on older models so I'm familiar with everything else.

I look fwd to seeing the results..as my car is white/black as well.

here is an update to where I’m at with this.

Now All that’s left is to paint this thing. Let me know what you think. Hopefully it’ll be complete soon.

Looking good so far! I like the body matched rings.
what color are you painting the rest?

Also what projectors are you using? The fit really well 👌🏾

I appreciate it. Every week i get closer to finishing it. Im painting the bumper and hood white again since they were partially damaged due to a unfortunate crash. I was contemplating a black hood to see how it would look. The rings make this thing stand out quite nicely. I got the sequential strip and halos from a brand called Qasim on Amazon. They seem pretty solid, just alot of wiring is needed to make it work. Wish me luck, I'll update you again after being painted.

Ahh ok. I did notice the bumper...but wasn't sure if that's what you were referring to. Some people paint the headlight housing body color. I think blacking out some of the chrome would look nice. I like the sequential strip as well. I hope the brand is good... I once got some cheap ones and had to reopen my headlights a 2nd time.

Good luck 🙏🏾

I just ordered replacement lenses for my car. Kinda nervous taking these apart. Heard they have that permaseal which is much difficult to separate.

No need to be anxious about it. Is just very time consuming is all. Might take hours to get just one off. But a better way would be with a dedicated oven for quarter of an hour of heating. I’ve never personally done with an oven as I don’t have one dedicated for this stuff. Before you reseal I would recommend trying to take as much of the old seal off, and that would an also a little tedious lol. After that, it’s quite easy to reseal. The housing has several clips( try your very best not to damage during lense removal ) that you can snap the new lenses in. The butyl sealant stuff is great, but will need to be quite hot before snapping in lenses. I’m sure you know how it goes as you’ve done it before. Just takes crazy patience

Yeah I've done it before. The ones I did was butyl and was pretty easy to pry. I did the oven method on those. Jag lights supposed to have Permaseal...from what I understand. Its a much tougher sealant.

I have one of these tools that some guys say helps a lot in separating the lens.

You wedge in between and squeezing it opens the tip. Sorta like a reverse set of pliers.

I do have a question tho. Can you tell if the orange reflector is able to be removed? While I have mine open... I'm tempted to mold them and cast some clear ones with resin. I love how the Euro spec headlights look.

great question! Yes that can be removed. They should have clips that clip in the three corners. Just be careful not to break one otherwise it won’t stay there firmly. I’d love to see how those would turn out. Euro spec is the best, these dumb laws always take away the good stuff. If I could I would have put in clear ones myself. Good luck!

I won't have much time to actually leave the lights out of the car. I'm going to tint the orange markers 1st..to see how I like it. Its already in the mail lol.

I have new lenses. They got delivered yesterday. Caught a sale on Aliexpress for $70.

Just need a big box to create a makeshift heatgun oven. I'm still nervous with the Permaseal. Getting it all out of the channel will be a chore.

very nice deal for 70. I wish I looked for a while longer before deciding to go with black. They’ll look much nicer as the headlight looks more complete. A make shift oven is a great idea. Might work better. But yeah permaseal is definitely quite difficult to get all off. It took me like 4-5 hours to get one off. But on the bright side if you reseal it with the same thing. You won’t have to ever worry about leakage. This stuff seals super strong once it dries out.

what are you referring when you said "go with black"? The blacked out reflectors or you doing the lenses black?
I plan on using butyl to reseal. In case I ever want to reopen the lights down the line.

I meant with the reflectors painted black. No one has done it before so I was very skeptical if it would look better. Anything beats the orange reflector color tho. Please do update when finished. I’d love to see it on the car. And the lenses would look great if blacked. Some people even black out the entire top. Here’s what that looks like. And it looks amazing with blacked out lenses. The blacked out top is not for everyone tho.

That looks really good!!
that gave me a nice visual of how mine will look.
I contemplated tinting the entire thing, but my windshield is tinted and I need all the light output. Good thing about the facelift model...is the inside of the lights are mostly black already.

Finalise with dynamic led mirror turnlights.
They are black when not lit.
