Light Sensor Issue
Hello,
I have recently started seeing issues with the light sensor on my 2013 XJ, where the lights turn on as usual, but it takes a very long time for them to turn off after exiting tunnels during sunny days. With lights on, I change the switch from “auto” to “off” and then to “auto” again, but this does not fix the issue. I need to wait for 5 to 10 minutes until lights automatically switch off.
My car is several months now off warranty. Is there I can try to do to fix this by myself? The sensor in the windshield is clean.
Thank you.

I haven't heard of the sensor in the mirror going faulty, but anything can go wrong. The lighting stalk is a common failure item on these cars though (and many other JLR models that share the same part).
Does this happen every time, or intermittently?
Do they ever turn on unexpectedly, e.g. just driving along a bright road? If they do, can you link it to bumps in the road or use of the turn indicators?
When it does happen, does the green "Auto lamps" indicator on the instrument cluster come on, or just the headlamps? (You need the full beam assist turned on in the menu for that indicator to be shown. If not a fitted option you won't be able to test that.)
Is the behaviour the same with the stalk set to one of the Auto delay settings? (AFAIK those only affect the ignition-off delay and not the sensitivity during driving but I do not use that feature so I am not certain of that.)

Thank you for your reply.
The issue appears to be that it takes longer for lights to turn off in bright conditions, after a tonnel.
I have seen this several times now, and three times on the same road, on a bright day. I would enter a tonnel, where my lights would normally turn on automatically, but then they stay on for another 7 minutes and turn off at exactly the same spot, where the sun seems to be just above my car with no side shadow. All my settings appear to be okay, so I am not sure on what goes wrong here...
