Media Library-Manual entry of missing track/CD info?
When you rip a CD to the media library and Gracenote fails to recognise artist and track info…is there any way you can manually edit this as it gets to be a royal pain to try & figure out what’s what. My dealer had no concrete info either way on this. Said he had never been asked this before. He didn’t think this was possible but wasn’t 100% sure since nobody had asked this before.
When I first took delivery of my Jag, one of the first CD’s I ripped was Mike Oldfield’s Ommadawn. I got a generic Oldfield photo of his hand on a guitar neck and “Track 1” “Track 2”, etc. So there’s no real way of knowing what I'm selecting when I hit Mike Oldfield as I have Tubular Bells in there as well. I’ve done a fair bit of messing about on my own and all I can find is how to delete tracks. I tend to think there is no way to manually edit the CD info but thought one of you seasoned owners may know better. I’m just coming from a pretty basic X Type so I feel like a little boy on Christmas Morning in my cat. Always a pleasure to get behind the wheel of her.
Two other quick questions 1) is it possible to import a track to an established playlist? I like classical as well and would like to compile my own playlist but this is going to result in the same blank track info and no CD name. 2) How do you delete the media library drive to start over? Again, the dealer wasn’t sure on this as they’d never been asked this before. I would like to do this as every CD I try to rip that Gracenote doesn’t tag ends up with Oldfield’s hand and guitar neck.
Thanks in advance…..

Yes I think you need to have the CD already labeled (MP3 Tags-technically they are ID3 tags) before you import or rip it to the Jaguar HD.
If it is rare and the system can't retrieve anything then you just get generic information as you found out.
That's why it's a cool feature but I just use the USB stick instead and can see all my MP3 tags.
I have a huge music collection of my own and try to label everything correctly (Which is a big pain but once it's done it's done).

clubairth1, I am with you on the USB of music. Granted, if you use USBs, keep hte size down to 16GB or smaller. Going bigger causes a long delay in the radio being able to access the music. I am getting ready to break up my music to fit on to four 16 GB USB sticks. That way I can have all my music available at a moments notice. Too bad you can't hook up say a solid state drive to the USB port to store the music that way. When you have 1300ish albums, keeping them on USB sticks can become a headache.
That's interesting as I was going to try a USB HD next.
Currently I am still digitizing my music collection and probably will be for several years. Currently I have 5000+ CD's done. About 465GB total. I have tried to standardize on 320K CBR format but still have a lot of low bit rate junk from when I started and did not know what I was doing. Painful to redo them just because they are 128K!
So that won't work and we need to stay with the smaller USB sticks?
I searched but am not clear on the maximum size the USB device can be?
Or are you saying 16GB is the limit?

You might also want to run your MP3s through Checkmate MP3 Checker since MP3s with any encoding errors can cause some rather peculiar behavior. It is freeware and takes no time to figure out.

clubairth1, when it comes to the maximum size USB stick that you can use, I am not sure if there is a max size. I have used 32 and 16 GB sticks and noticed a big difference in start up times between the two. I have a generic SSD hard drive that is rated at 256 GB. I do not know if my hard drive has special software to allow it to be treated like a USB stick or not. Supposedly, some hard drives have a special file on them that allows the device that they are being connected to not see them as a hard drive, but more like a USB stick. So, keep your eye out for some sort of wording like that. May be the answer to potential problems.
