Default My 2013 XJ Supersport Arrived

After originally ordering a 2012 SWB SuperSport with Speed package and then rolling to a 2013 due to production delays. My 2013 arrived at the dealership on Friday and will be ready to pick up this afternoon (Oct. 22, 2012) I am attaching some photos during PDI and will post more after delivery along with driving impressions. I'll review the transmission change to 8 speed, the audio change to Meridian, and the suspension refinements.

Can you get B&W audio as an option on the 2013?

Congrats. Mine has the same wood, wheels and trim. I notice some little detail differences, such as colouring in the front lamp glass. I like the Jaguar lettering under the leaper on the tail as well.

You'll enjoy it, I'm sure.

Very nice!

I'm looking forward to your review, particularly on the ride quality. I would also like for you to observe the engine RPM at 70 MPH to compare with the 6-speed transmission that will turn about 1900-2000 RPM at 70 MPH.

Interesting about the RPM you mention, in the UK we have a 3 litre twin turbo diesel engine XJ, at 2000rpm ( with the 6 speed box ) the car is travelling at 90mph !!!

Now that I have had the Cat 2 days and have a grand total of 118 miles, here are my initial impressions. I am taking it easy so far and only use 1/3rd of the accelerator pedal movement and it is scary fast already. I have had it up to 90 and cruised at 80mph (no steady running yet during my break-in period) and the tack reads 1700RPM. So the 8 speed is set very tall on 7th and 8th gears. This transmission is so sweet glad I waited. I am still up in the air about the stop/start feature, but have found that when at a stop is I have lighter pressure on the brake pedal and the car is not moving the engine stays lit and with firm pressure the engine does the stop/start. The stop/start initially was a little rough but is smoothing as the Cat and I become more acquainted with each other. The Meridian audio is fantastic and the only car audio that I have heard that might be a tad better are custom builds. When set on the Meridian configuration each passenger has said that the surround effect made them feel in the middle of the listening area. Next the suspension, initially there was a lot of “jiggle” and as the tires have worn in that has reduced but is still there a bit. Since I have the Speed package and therefore a top end of 174mph the technician set the tires at 39psi, so I plan to play with the tire pressure since I can run it as low as 32psi, so I’m of going to try 35psi to start from and see how it feels and play around to find what works best. Stay tuned and I’ll be updating again. Here are some photos, and as for the question about the headliner only the center sections all the way back are perforated and as this is a SuperSport the headliner is all leather. Stay tuned

Is there an option to turn off the Stop/Start feature?

Yes there is a hard button at the lower right corner of the center display that turns it off but resets to on on the next start.

I would be hitting that button every time I started the car--that's what my friend with a new MB CLS63 does. I wish all of the manufacturers would get rid of this feature, but I'm afraid it's the wave of the future for improving their mandated gas mileage figures.

My Cat came with the "old" style large key. guess they will use them till they run out. I don't know if I bought a new style weather the system coud be programed to use it.

I'd get rid of the button and hard-wire it always in the shorted position so this stupid feature would be bye-bye forever.

Beautiful car! Do your side vents say Supersport? It doesn't look like it from the pictures but its hard to tell. I had an interesting Jaguar screw up with my car. One side vent says Supercharged like it's supposed to, but the other side vent says Supersport. My dealer said they would fix it under warranty, but I left them that way to remind me that Jaguars can still be quirky British cars.
