On some older posts noticed questions re how to update the nav system with new maps. Some people were having problems and I went to the NAVTEQ web site and possibly the info below could be of help.
I just got a 2012 XJL and I'm a newbie to this forum and always checking what other contributors have to say.
I have not attempted to upgrade my system so I can't yet add any further to this conversation. If anyone uses this let me know if it was helpful. Thanks.

My advise: save the $200.00 update to your Jaguar GPS and instead buy a Garmin nuvi 2757 LM 7 inch screen GPS with free lifetime map updates of North America from Walmart for $187.00 and free shipping. It has so many useful features and is so much easier to use; plus you can mount it atop your dashboard, closer to your line of sight when driving, which increases safety. This from a guy who spent the money a year ago to update his Jaguar GPS, and still found it virtually useless, and went to the Garmin which is light years ahead.
I've reconsidered on this one, and will eventually get the updated map for the Jag. Not the image I want to convey while motoring around in a $80,000-$100,000+ automobile. It's funny how we justify our actions or inactions.
I bought a Garmin primarily for my Goldwing motorcycle about 6 yrs ago but have also used it in my other vehicles that don't have a navigation system and put out the $$$ to buy an updated map for it. But you know, I still travel with the latest map I get from AAA in my truck or other vehicles just in case.
Just offering another point of view on this topic but, to each his/her own.
Recently i got 2014/2015 map update for my 2010XJ Portfolio.
I put the USB on the stick and no message, No message on the screen. I've tried putting USB Stck in the I-Pot slot - still nothing.
of course i do this, car running.
I retour USB to "HERE" and he send me new USB stick but it's exactly the same probleme.
To be sure that the Car reconise the USB stick i put a MP3 file inside (the USB are not full) and it works.

It looks like you have to leave the USB flash drive in for almost 3 hours for the update to complete. One user reported that it took a long time for the car to acknowledge the drive had been plugged in.
I started the update as instructed by HERE, stick recognized on the third time, the update started for 15 min % stayed at zero, turned off, unplugged, locked unlocked restarted, percentage showed up as 3276% dots blinking but percentage not changing for the last 20 min... Not sure if anything is happening at all... Anyone?
hey there!
may I ask was this issue ever resolved I’m currently stuck in this process not updating my 2011 xj. Would be greatly appreciated to get some insight on your outcome. Appreciate your support on this matter since you went through the same situ

The company HERE, formerly Navteq is the one making the software. It admitted the sold usb stick bricked the map module of Jaguar cars and reached a settlement to repair for free (the module cost is about 2-3 thousand dollars) the module and repair cost is covered by Jaguar even if you are beyond warranty. You need to ask you service people to contact Jaguar to obtain the confirmation for coverage of the cost. Since then, as far as I know, the two companies decided they will no longer offer to sell self update usb sticks.

I had exactly the issue as shown in your picture, but eventually it worked. 3276% is an overflow number (32767 is all ones in a 16-bit field, for the technically minded)
I've updated 3 times and never had a problem. It takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. But once started you can drive and shutoff car, but IMHO, you should NEVER remove the USB stick until the update is completed as you may brick the nav unit. Sort of like upgrading a computer you would never remove the USB or CD till the upgrade is completed
I also had a lot of time getting the update to work. But as posted above I just left it in and after about 2-3 days of driving around, shutting car off/on it finally updated and worked fine.
Maybe just leave the USB in for a week or so and see if the car will pick it up?

How can you tell if the nav unit is bricked? I had an unsuccesfull update. The update finished, but there is no map present. Just a black screen where the map should be. All the other icons are there, but no map. I bought it from a different website, and through many tries corresponding with the seller, I never got it to work. I was considering buying the official one from HERE, but if the unit is bricked, that would be a waste of money. Plus, I upgraded my receiver to an Android unit, so I use Waze or Google Maps, and fixing the OEM navigation has not been a pressing issue for me.
I use maps on my IPhone. when i do i stream music to the car, this also allows the phone nav. audio to be over the speakers. works great. i will not update the car.
I updated this year and never had an issue. Just be very patient and follow the instructions that came with the flash drive exactly. Do not remove the drive under any circumstances for however many times you use the car until installation finishes and it says so.
