Nav Update
My 2019 XJ's built-in Nav system needs new maps.
Has anyone had the dealer install new maps? How did it go? Cost?
Anyone else besides the dealer can do Nav update?
Or best just use Google maps on Android Auto, or Apple maps ... ?
Thanks,

NavyBlue, updating the Nav system does not take the dealership. YOu end up buying a USB stick with the information and you plug it into the center console and then drive around for awhile (takes abutt 3 hours from what I hear). But, at the end of it, it will say it is done and you pull the stick out. I think you have the ability to plug in a USB stick.
As for using Google maps or other internet based map apps, that is up to the person. Some find the Jag Nav to be utter crap and rely on their phone for everything. Me, I find it tolerable and use it to do what I need (I only use it by maybe 10 times a year, so I am able to tolerate a bit more than others). This is where I would tell you to try a few things and see what you like and don't like. It would also be advisable to talk with AT&T to get a data package for the car to put things on an even playing field. The car does have the ability to update for wrecks and what not, but it needs a connection to the internet. I am not sure if you can hotspot your car into your phone to give it internet that way. The data package is like $25 a month when I checked into it a few months back. I don't use the radio for a lot of internet stuff, so, not having data is no big deal to me. You have kids, the car can be your hot spot and keep them online wtih all their toys.
P.S. Submarines Rule!!!!!!!

I don't think that will work for a 2019?
I thought Jaguar had by that time went to SOTA (Software Over The Air) for navigation updates not USB?
One other thing is the navigation updates for the earlier cars (That did use a USB stick) has died with the last release being the 2020 version so at least 3 years out of date at this point. Jaguar simply abandoned the entire system after that.
If you click on the navigation link above and select a 2019 XJ there are no updates. Check it and see?
Note it lands you on a "InControl Route Planner". So your car has the InControl App from the factory. Since I have a 2014 that uses the USB I can't give you the details on updating the InControl App stuff.

On a 2019 you download the maps from HERE (the name of a company, not a location!) onto a 64 GB stick and upload them to the car: the upload to the car takes about 15-30 minutes (the new cars have USB3, not USB1). (Hence buy a USB3 memory stick, or the speed advantage will be moot)
Downloading the maps requires a subscription.

I don't know if any of the following will help the OP, but here goes: I bought my 2020 F-Type as a 3-year-lease return, CPO, with 2800 miles. If I recall correctly, when I first set up my Jag/HERE account online to download free map updates, I found that the original owner/leasee was still linked to the vehicle via VIN; in fact, all his routes/destinations and home address still appeared on the Jag/HERE site. I simply clicked a "deactivate account" option so I could enter my new ID info. After downloading the Map Updater app to my PC, I've since been able to download monthly map updates to a USB thumb drive and transfer to the car without issue.
I have a 2016 XJL and purchased it as a Jag Certified car. At that time, they installed a SIM card and gave me a fresh map update. I was just notified that my 12 month inControl contract is expiring. I’m assuming I lose too many ‘necessaries’ if I let it lapse, so will probably re-up the package unless ya’ll advise otherwise. Question: With the SIM card, does that mean I have access to an internet feed. Thanks.

From Jag, I renewed only the monthly HERE map updates (three years for about $170), which includes the traffic/dynamic re-routing service. I lost only the stolen-car locator service; also, roadside assistance (which I replaced for $10/year through my car insurance).
Because traffic info uses very little data, 100MB/month is plenty for my uses (I switch mobile data off when not needed to conserve). Traffic is the only data need I have. For entertainment, I have a separate SiriusXM account (renewed for $5/month) and can opt for FM radio or my own ripped CDs via USB thumb drive that's installed as another source; if I want to stream Spotify I do that through my connected phone.
