I saw this in the window and just had to have it. My new to me 2016 Portfolio - picked it up last week. Recently had a milestone birthday and wanted to treat myself. Didn't know even one thing about it, just handed over my American Express card and said "Here, take my money". Pure impulse buy, and now I've put almost six hundred miles on it in just about a week. I remember when they first came out and thought they were one of the most gorgeous cars I'd seen in a long long time. I don't think I've seen another here in NC, don't know if that's good or bad haha, but I don't care. I just wanted it.
I'm figuring things out day by day, and sure I will have questions. Thanks for allowing me to join and looking forward to the Forum
@NorthCarolinaXJL Welcome to the Forum! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine! Be sure to add a Signature that includes details of your beautiful new toy! I'm a bit biased because mine is the same colors.
Welcome. Very nice, she is a pretty one. You got it from Jaguar, So, can we assume it comes with a Certified Pre Owned warranty? You will likely need this to take care of usual regular maintenance and weak point maintenance items that we members will warn you to about. For future posts, please advise us of what engine and unique features your car has. You will notice most of us have shown specifics on our page. Not to dissuade your joy, but I will be the first to give you some caution. Of most significance and the notorious weak point of this model that we should make you aware of is the cooling system. The system has a water pump that will likely fail its front seal somewhere around plus or minus 50K miles (my estimate reading posts). In addition, the cooling system has plastic pipes which will split over time. So, check your maintenance record to see if these failure prone parts have been serviced. Be particularly aware of a strong coolant smell, coolant on the garage floor, or consistently low coolant. If there is a high temperature or catastrophic cooling system failure, immediately shut down the engine. Do not think you can drive one more mile or you will ruin that aluminum engine. That said, we are all Jaguar proud and happy owners who absolutely love these beautiful beasts.

Welcome to the forum! You have been officially warned about the cooling system, which will eventually destroy your car if not proactively maintained because the damaged caused costs more to fix than the car will be worth.
I have the same exterior color and similar interior color, but mine is a 2019 with the 5.0L. I absolutely love it!

The Jaguar Certified Pre-owned Warranty was not available for that 2016 XJL, as it is too old to qualify. The Jaguar CPO program is limited to the last 5 model years, which means that the 2020 model year is the oldest that would have been eligible.
That limitation does not prevent a Jaguar dealer from selling an extended "warranty" from an unrelated third party. Although technically not a warranty (because by definition a warranty can only be issued by a manufacturer), Jaguar dealers often sell extended service contracts from unrelated third parties and call them warranties. BUYER BEWARE! Don't be fooled into believing that it's a Jaguar warranty, even if it's on the Jaguar dealer's letterhead and comes with a slick brochure. You must read the fine print of that Extended Service Contract with all the deductibles, co-pays, limitations, and exclusions to know what you're buying. And search the internet for customer reviews and complaints.
NCXJL, welcome to the Forums. You sound like me in how I got my first Jag. I am now on #3 (an 03 X-Type, 12 XJ, now 16 XJL). You will love the car and you probably picked it up for a steal. Like others have said, keep an eye on the coolant system. Probably a good idea to invest a little in the car and upgrade to the metal coolant pipes (there's a few threads on what is needed). Yes, it will set you back a grand or so. But, you won't have that nagging "well is today the day the coolant system fails on me". I had that happen to me: On vacation, 1,000 miles from home and boom, the coolant system was spraying water faster than I could pour it in.
If you feel like you need any documentation for the car, let me know. I can get you set up with what you may want/need to know.
Welcome aboard!! As you may have already surmised, there are wealth of good people who are ready willing an able yo provide good information and fellowship here.
Thank you all! No stranger to coolant issues here, my '17 Grand Cherokee is having a new engine installed as I type this, as the third water pump blew without any evidence until I smelled that not-so-good sweetness. On a major highway two hours into the country there was no place to pull over and had no choice but to gently cruise to the next exit, but it was too late. Luckily it's all covered by my extended warranty but I'll be damned if I go through that again, so thanks for the heads up. I was already planning to talk to the dealer about an extended warranty on Monday, and I'll ask about metal piping then. It's got 72,000 miles on it but the previous owner was fanatical about the car and had the 100,000 mile tune up done already, according to the dealer's records. Thanks again for the warm welcome!
Your wise to check into the forums right away. Yes these cars just like all cars do have their own set of problems and issues.
BUT you now know what's coming and can prepare for it.
As posted above first and foremost stay on top of the fluid levels and please open the hood from time to time for a good visual check.
Rarely does the cooling system go boom unless it has been neglected. It will start leaking and using coolant before that happens. So watch for the symptoms.
Only other advice is to DIY the repairs but I don't know if you can?
