No Audio/Video button greyed out and Radio not working
I was driving my XJ and listening to the Radio fine today, stopped at some shops, when I started again I noticed the Audio/Video button (top one above Climate and Navigation on the home screen) was greyed out.
When I turned on the Radio, nothing, no sound from the speakers. I also noticed that when the parking sensors were on, they were giving no Audio feedback.
I restarted the car a few times, but still the same problem.
Is this a known issue? Can it be reset somehow? Its like alls speakers are gone so anything to do with speakers (audio/video/parking sensors) are not responding
So this morning the battery died, infact it was so flat the doors and boot would not open (hence my other thread about revving the engine)
I don't have a jump starter for it so I can't use the emergency key to get the bonnet open and then get the boot open. Going to garage tomorrow
Anyone recommend a good portable Jump Starter for a 3.0 XJ? The breakdown guy said he wouldn't want to jump start it incase it damages anything as its too big.
If it helps anyone in the future he guy from Jag said the greying out of icons on the home page (followed by a dead battery) is a sure sign the speaker module failed to get enough voltage as the battery was dying.
Dead batteries are a very common occurence in modern Jags. Your only recourse is to get an AGM battery, or to get a battery maintainer such as a CTEK. Good luck!
From my experience both personally and according to my service advisor battery issues greatly diminished in 2013 model year and newer. I know this is of no help to earlier owners.
amcdonal86 and XJsss, was this a software update or just better use of electrical components in newer Jags?
Are AGM batteries better because they charge quicker? Or hold more charge? Any recommendations as mine is a Jaguar (Varta) RC 150 950amp 90Ah so I need something similar but an AGM version...
apachegogo I can only say that for 2013 model year they made many changes including electronics, but I cannot say exactly what was changed in the charging system.

I know this is a very old thread but did you ever resolve this issue? Happened to me this week.

How many miles on your 2015 F-Type? Have you ever replaced the battery? If not, that's the likely cause of your problem.
If the battery has been replaced, it appears to be weak. You should recharge it using a 10 amp or greater battery charger so you can start it. Take it to a national chain auto parts store and and have them load test it. It may or may not still be good.
You may want to consider using a CTEK or similar battery maintainer to keep the battery fully charged, particularly if you don't drive it daily.

Wow not been on this forum for a while until you just replied. If I remember correctly it was almost certainly the battery. What happens is as the battery ages, it is not able to service all components with the correct amperage/voltage so whilst it might turn some things on, the ECU starts disabling things.
Best fix is get the battery replaced.
If its a fairly recent battery (less than 1 year old) I would still get it checked out, small chance its the ECU but highly unlikely.

Yes also great advice, if you don't use it daily and drive for atleast 20 minutes, you will need trickle charge it. Atleast for the first few years of models when the XJ came out anyway.
I highly recommend changing the battery regardless on most cars around every 4 years. They massively drop off in performance after that period.
Thanks everyone for your advice, love the Jag family!! I did get a new battery tonight and problem still exists. I am going to charge it overnight and see what I get in the AM.
Not sure if this helps anyone with a diagnosis but it started slowly disconnecting bluetooth then reconnecting after 15-20 seconds. Then it would disconnect for longer then it greyed out. Does seem like a battery issue but I bought a new one tonight and same issue. Charging new battery overnight and will have it checked out tomorrow.
Sounds like this is going to need a diagnosis from a garage then unfortunately, it could be the ECU or something else not being able to service the Radio
It might be worth checking a local car radio expert or non-official jaguar garage before going to the dealer which can be more expensive!
Adding to what XJsss said up thread my 2014 XJR is still on the factory battery! I probably just jinxed myself right there! Can't find any date on battery but the car's in service date is 9/2013 so I just celebrated my 8 YEAR anniversary. What they did to improve things I don't know as there is always a lot of running changes with Jaguar. Hopefully improving things as they go.
My stop/start system did stop working some time ago and in SDD it does have a start/system fault. This might be first symptom of the battery going bad too.

in 2013 the XJ updated all around and the electrical system was changed from Denso to Bosch electrics. This made a huge difference and the low battery and short storage issues were all but eliminated. I'm attaching the dealer model brief that describes the other changes that are selling points and are not concerned with the electrical system as most sales people are untrained on this and couldn't care less when trying to sell a car IMHO.
