hey everyone,
When i removed the bottom skidplate while searching for a clunking noise and found an oil drip on the cover for the fuel pump shaft? I'm assuming that is what it is because i can't find it in the parts diagram. I'll see if I can post a picture. Anyone have any input, is this a simple fix, or a dealer type of problem? This is on a 5.0 non sc 2011 XJL.

Reason: picture too large
Seriously though, the fix depends on what's under that cover. If an O ring, I'd replace it. If not, and they used a sealant, the trick lies in replacing the sealant.
Yes, not big, just annoying and a fire hazard when it puddles on the skid plate. For a car thats 85k new, you would think the limeys could engineer a decent seal!--end of rant...
just wondering if anybody can tell me what is this cover too? any mecanics out there?
Its just an o-ring repair. That's the vacuum pump that is driven by the fuel pump cam. Easily removable and o-ring/seal replacement. Will lose some oil when removed FYI.
Are you sure the 4.2L has a gear driven vacuum pump? It was added when they released the new 5.0L V-8.
My old 2005 STR with the SC 4.2L V-8 did not have that.

Well again he has a 5.0L and you posted that you have a 4.2L which does not have the vacuum pump?
Post back how you fixed your oil leak. It looks like the belt tensioner and I would clean up the front of the engine and watch where the oil comes from. The only leaks I had on my old 4.2L SC were from the oil cooler hoses but I don't think the NA version of the 4.2L has those?
The only two photos of my engine are the ones above. Also got the traces of oil in the plastic protection cover.
It may be that this is not a vacuum pump, i dont know. If so, can someone tell me what kind of part is that where you can see oil droplets?
No oil contamination can be seen above this part
