Oil leak
Recently bought a 2015 xj and after a couple of days noticed an oil leak on my drive which is on a steepish incline.Took it to garage and they changed oil cooler and cleaned out drip trays.Came back after saying that it had a drop of oil under car but thought this was residue from cooler change, parked on drive again last night and have oil dripping down the drive way although it seems clearer liquid than before.Any ideas or is it because I’m parked on an incline?
Well, you bought a 9 or 10 year old vehicle that we can all only assume hasn't had various gaskets replaced that wear over time. Considering that, there are a number of gaskets that can't overcome the laws of physics and age and as a result are expected to be replaced. You didn't give any description of which engine your XJ has or what configuration it is other than the model year, but generally the common gaskets that can be expected to begin leaking at this age would be the camshaft cover gaskets and vacuum pump gaskets, and possibly upper timing cover gaskets (where they meet the camshaft covers).
Considering you recently bought the 2015 that we'll assume you don't know the full history of, I strongly suggest you scour through existing posts in this forum to learn as much as you can about the characteristics of the XJ. Otherwise, you're likely to be hit smack in the forehead with unpleasant, expensive and infuriating failures that can easily lead you to getting rid of the XJ at a great loss - possibly for scrap.
The main concern that you would want to get familiar with and address MUCH more than the oil leak is the health of the cooling system. AT the age of your XJ, the components of cooling system needs to be "refreshed" or else there will be a failure - and inconveniently soon - that really can total the engine.
And that's assuming that it hasn't already happened to the previous owner which led to them getting rid of it.
Be aware that forum members HOPE that is not the case, but please browse through the vast history of this forum and you can get familiar with the possible situation and how to address concerns & questions.
