Default Which one to buy?

Both cars are clean with no accidents...similar options.

2011 XJ supercharged 80000 miles $27000

or

2012 XJ supercharged 30000 miles $34700

Both cars have great tires, brakes and rotors

I am torn here and really need input from people who know and have been around.

Thanks.

abs777, this is what I will say: If you are looking to have the car for say 10+ years, then the 2012, hands down. If you are looking to have the car for say 3-4 years and then trade again to something newer then, the 2011. You should be able to get 200,000 more miles out of either car. So, longevity is not really an issue. It is more a bang for the buck as I see it. Yes, the 2012 is more, but has far fewer miles and may pay off in the long run with lower maintenance costs. BUt, if you are only keeping it for a few years, the maintenance will be minimal till you start to near 150K miles or so.

I'd push them hard on the pricing of the 2012 and go for that - 50k fewer miles is a pretty substantial difference

Are they from different dealers? If so, level with them. Tell them there is a 2011 (with more miles) for 7k less and that you will take the 2012 from them if you can work on price else you'll walk for the 2011

Used prices on XJ have been hit hard recently so the market is on your side...

Good luck. Either will be terrific

They had originally at 37000 and I offered 34000 for it...they came back at 34700...this is for the 2012. It is a 3 owner car that has 30k miles that kind of worries me.

The 2011 with 80k miles is a one owner that was traded into the Jag dealership on a new one. They had it at 27k, I offered 25k and they came back at 26k. I have been looking a couple weeks now and these are the lowest prices I have seen.

I was looking at a 2011 Supersport with 56k miles...I got them down to $34500...but I really like the 26k price...I plan on keeping it 2...3 years max. So like Thermo said...I think this gives me the best bang for my buck.

Any input is appreciated.

If you are only going to keep the car for 2-3 years max, I would personally go with the 26k car. If you put another 30-40k miles on it in that time, your depreciation hit will be a lot lower than the 35K car which already went through 3 title changes.

Also, the 26k car being a one owner and also traded in at a Jaguar dealer kinda tells me that it was serviced at Jaguar dealership all its life.

Agreed - that seems like the right option given your timescale for ownership

Well. Thanks guys I pulled the trigger and bought the $26k one. Drove it the four hour drive home. All I can say is I LOVE driving this thing. The good thing about buying this one also is I came in so under budget that the wife said when these tires need replacing I can buy some new rims for it as well. Thanks for the help everyone, I really appreciate it!!

Terrific. Congratulations. And pretty amazing that you can buy a car like that in the mid 20k range!
