Parking assist broken or just useless.
Hello, maybe this video will help. It's an XF but I believe the same principle applies to the XJ

But my fiance' absolutely loves it. She doesn't relate to gadgets and isn't addicted (yet) to horsepower. I wanted a fully loaded XJL-R but couldn't find the color combination we wanted. This isn't a normal market and I don't think British Racing Green with Tan interior even exists in an XJL-R or 575. All I keep seeing is black black black everywhere.

Well the S Type was severely de-contented as the years went on. The biggest thing was dropping the hi end Brembo brakes on the STR. That stopped in 2005 when they knew the S-Type/Lincoln LS were on the way out. So we think Jaguar was just using up any and all S Type parts at the end. Especially the last year 2008. Does your S-Type have adjustable pedals? I thought they dropped that too?
Got to love the Velocity Blue!
Maybe it was skimping but I think different models were aimed at different markets. I think we are pretty lucky Jaguar even decided to make an XJR as you have found out they just did not sell and not that many to choose from. I am sure Jaguar lost money on every XJR, XJ575. In fact there have been rumors that Jaguar lost money on every XJ sold because of the very low production numbers.
So the final 300 collector editions are special but don't have every single option. Even the XJR has some limits on options compared to the lower XJ's.

It sounds like you assume that a "special edition", in this case the Collector's Edition final run of the MY meant that it would include every possible option offered, which was not the case, and wouldn't be expected to be by most of us. To paraphrase what was said above, you got what you bought. Unfortunately, you did not look closely at the details of what you were buying, but that's okay - many people do that.
Also be advised, your manual describes details of all options and configurations, not your specific car.
You can spin the blame any way you want but in practice, it turned me off enough to stop looking for an F-Type R. It has lane keep assist. The hardware is already there. How much could it have cost them? How much could it have cost them to print 300 individual badges instead of 300 of the same badge? Then of course they only mention in their ads and press releases what was added. Even the reviewers didn't catch it. I don't do business with people who can do stuff like that. It's very telling. That's not my kind of car company. No class anymore.

I assumed that my 2019 XJL "portfolio" had all the options except the airline reclining and messaging back seats. Yesterday I was going crazy trying to get the car to go into assist mode. I now realize that I don't have that special button.
Oh well so much for the "Portfolio" title.
