Default Maybe I am just getting old but....

does anyone else have a problem precision parking this car; I have always been pretty good at parking in general and partic when parallel parking and getting my distance spot on to the curb but for some reason I have had a problem since day one judging parking distances all around, please say I am not alone.

On a different note ,( or maybe not so different ) I think this car has as much of the old Mark 10 look to it as XJ in styling, partic on the door and belt line from the side, I remember playing in a junkyard one as a kid and the doors were like off a bank vault.

I'm not having a problem parking my car. It is standard WB version. When curb parking the rear sensors are a great help and the right reaview mirror lowering is a great help.

My only problem paralell parking my XJR with its 19" wheels and low profile tires is "fear". A high curb plus a careless driver can absolutely trash an expensive alloy wheel. Get a little wild and you can bend the wheel. Not good.

Like you, I used to be pretty confident paralell parking. Now I avoid it, if at all possible.

I have more trouble parking it in side-by-side parking spots. It's so hard for me to judge side distances with the higher belt line.

That's why the right rearview mirror is so handy when it auto dips. I can see the curb and wheel when parallel parking.

Yes I agree that part of it is being phobic about a rim kiss bending these wheels that scratch with a look;
but the front distance when pulling in to a parking stop/curb/bumper is so hard to judge, I always think I am kissing the concrete bollard then get out to see I am a foot away.

I have to second this after scratching up one wheel and on another occasion, scraping the passenger door... I also worry about the cars in front and behind me for streetside parking as the car is an exact fit for the parking lots that we have over here... (very small compared to US lots) I look for nose in or reverse in parking wherever possible, making full use of the front and rear sensors...

The only thing worse than getting old is not having the opportunity to do so.
