For months I've been dealing with the JaguarDrive Selector either not extending when the car is started or being able to shift the car out of Drive back to Reverse/Neutral/Park when I reach my destination. I've had the whole drive assembly sent for refurbishment to a company in Canada twice. But when the unit is returned, the shifting will behave as expected for a week but then those issues reappear. I've recently changed the battery and my scanner tool reports a good charge when the car is started/running. I really don't care if the knob extends upward, I only care about being able to shift gears and not have it lock into Drive when I want to park. Any advice would be appreciated. I really enjoying driving the car but it's a garage queen because it isn't dependable...
Thanks!
Can please post a link to this "manual shift knob conversion kit"? Never heard of it?
Can you point to where this is a known weak point"? Again I have never seen it and there and zero posts on the forum about it?

Thanks for the input! I'll take a voltage read later today before I start the car. I purchased an OBDLink MX+ to read the codes but the tool wasn't as robust in what I was hoping to do with it. Looks like I'll have to invest in the iCarsoft LR V4.0 to get better diagnostics and to possibly clear codes.
I do wonder if the "brain" of the computer is failing a run-up check of some sort and then blocks the transmission from shifting... or this is purely a shifter mechanism issue...
So you have had the shifter rebuilt twice? Or just the drive unit portion shown below? Do you know what was done each time?
Probably the simplest test would be to swap out the whole shifter assembly with another. They are on eaby IIRC around $200 for a decent one (no sticky buttons).
My dealer told me they are all interchangeable through the years but I have no way to verify that. I bought a spare from a 2019 to use in my 2011 eventually (button faces worn) so I guess I will find out someday.
Image is from when I had mine apart for the Console Chrome Delete. More images there.
Nice job Rothwell!
I have never had the shifter that far apart. So thanks for the education!
RogerWilcoLV hopefully with the new scanner you can retrieve some codes. Hate to see you buy parts before we know where the problem is.
I also have that OBDLink MX+ along with the factory SDD. It's a very useful dongle for me. I only bring out the big gun (SDD) when I have to.
See the attached JTB (Jaguar Technical Bulletin) and note the massive number of codes JUST for the shifter! I count over 25 possible codes. Also note a number of these codes have an additional 2 digits after the main code. Many scanners will not show these final 2 digits.
Don't know if this will help and if your not familiar with SDD not sure any of it will make sense. But I think your problems are in this area.
Do note the bulletin goes into the brake pedal stuff fairly deep and that could be the problem and not the shifter? If the car does not see the proper brake pressure it will not allow the shifter to rise.
