I have a 2010 XJL s/c. Somehow I got a hairline crack in the clear plastic of one of the rain sensors. Heat damage perhaps? As such the auto wipers only work when I’m in the car wash when buckets of water are cascading over the windshield.
The Jaguar part number is C2D5561 (for 2010-2015) and is ~$200 retail. Decided to take a small gamble that the Landrover part #LR014238 is the same as it’s ~$120. Looks the same and has almost identical numbers on the back. I’ll report back soon if it works out.
Okay I got the part in and plugged it in. It appears identical.
New Landrover part Old Jaguar part
Though now I’m thinking I screwed up. There is a small scratch on one of the old sensors, but it doesn’t seem big enough to be the cause of the problem. The big issue is the lack of silicon gel on the old sensor.
Old part, no gel on the front New part has gel over the sensors.
So it appears the gel is supposed to make an air-tight fit between the windshield and sensor. The previous owner likely changed the windshield or something and didn't put a new gel on the sensor. I now see that a bunch of aftermarket replacement gel pads exist, but don’t know how well they work.
Anyway I now have a $120 gel with free sensor 😂.
All the best.
EDIT: The new sensor is working well. Wipers come on when I sprinkle water over the scanned zone of the windshield. Took a couple times of pushing on the sensor against the windshield in various spots to work out an air bubble. But after that it works flawlessly.
