For anyone else interested in this setup, Jez does have these. Hook up with him using the email Harrosito provided me a couple of threads up: jez.sheasby@hotmail.com

This is called a tilt sensor.
Mine was sticking out a bit (yes it was plugged in correctly) and it was pushing against the plastic cover when the boot lid was reassembled. Jez said it was "normal". 9 months later my remote close is no longer working. When I contacted him via eBay, I was told he passed away.
I took the "kit" apart to see what was in it.
I will be looking at replacing the tilt sensor with either this one with mercury or the same one. There are plenty of them on eBay.

This is what the kit looks like inside. I photographed it from all angles to see what parts I'd need if I wanted to build it from scratch. No idea where to get the connectors from...

Yes, I knew Jes. It was my XJ that he used to test the prototypes of the boot/trunk-closer. And it was after we got to know each other from that, that he went to work on the connection looms for the LED headlight upgrade.
He sadly died last September after a short illness.

OBC thanks for the update!
My dealings with Jes showed he was an honable man as he refused to ship my trunk remote until he had worked out the current problem.
That said a lot to me as a customer of his!
Sorry to hear the news.

Since Jes is no longer with us, and his ebay post is gone, I ordered the Polish version of the boot closer for my 2016 XJL AWD.
Shipping cost and shipping time was reasonable. My first attempt at installation was apparently flawed, and the seller helped with troubleshooting.
Must ensure that all of the pins are locked into their connectors and that the mating electrical connectors are firmly locked together. After re-seating the connectors everything worked as expected.
All three close buttons (the fob, interior and exterior buttons) are all operational. It is a missing luxury that should have been added by JLR.
My only suggestion is to buy some extra retaining clips for the trunk deck lid lower trim panel. They are easy to break.

Thanks for the update as this is a very useful addition to any XJ. Glad to see another supplier offering this as I thought it was gone for good.

Chalk up another successful installation of the remote trunk closer kit which I obtained from the Polish gentleman. Fast shipping and an easy mod, thanks to this forum and the several helpful suggestions and hints.

Thanks all. I finally ordered (the Polish) one and installed it today. Seems to work well.

Wondering if everyone’s experience is the same as mine though. When I close with a button now, it makes the same latch-opening clunk sound before performing a (~2-second) delayed close. I don’t remember this latch sound or delay when I used the old trunk close button. Thanks

I think mine does that too. Does everybody's remote closing from the fob work every time? Mine has been hit and miss from installation.

Hmm. I wonder if I screwed something up during installation.

Could your fob need a new battery?

I don't think so. The only thing that's ever hit-and-miss is the remote boot close. Everything else works perfectly on the first push.

Update on Jes' modules. I never noticed this before, but if my vehicle is motionless, in Drive, and with the brake pedal depressed, the trunk lid will open with a push of the dashboard button. I don't think this would happen in OE configuration; perhaps the aftermarket close module enables this accidently. I was stopped at a traffic light yesterday, and pressed this button while intending to extinguish the rear fog lamps. Pressing the dashboard button while moving through the intersection then closed the lid. I confirmed this was not a fluke upon returning home and repeated this behavior.
If you have either the original module by Jes, or the later Polish one, I suggest you attempt to replicate this fault in a safe environment, and report your results to the forum via this thread. And if you have an unmodified car, please try replicating this behavior and Replying as well.

FYI - I have an unmodified XJL 5.0 Supercharged 2011, and the behavior is the same as yours.

If you scroll up a few posts where I posted several pictures of the module, the tilt switch installed in the connector IS sticking out way too much. Mine was extremely unreliable and eventually stopped working. I replaced the tilt sensor and reattached it to the connector - after it was plugged into the boot lock - with a cable tie, but this time it's not sticking out as it's parallel with the connector and not on the bottom of the connector. The lid trim/cover doesn't touch it anymore. The lid closing was unreliable before, and since I replaced the tilt switch, it has worked every time!

The original tilt switch was faulty, as I tested it with a multimeter. I almost bought the Polish version, but I'm glad I didn't. This is the one you'd need https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/142502936669

If you are not confident about repairing it yourself, you're more than welcome to post it to me.
