Default Sirius Radio Reception issues--2011 XJ

Has anyone had problems with Sirius radio reception issues? I have had two other cars(lexus,Mercedes) with satelite radios that do not have the issue. The dealer said he has had a number of complaints, and that the older models do not have the problem, just the 2011 has no "buffer".. the issue is that when I go under almost anything--high overpass, sometimes stop lights, etc. the radio goes off and then comes back on. I know it will go off in parking garages, etc.. not the issue. Very dangerous when you are cruising at a high speed, cranked up the radio and all of a sudden it goes silent passing under a high overpass and then comes back on full volume--, surprised me, and continues to.
It needs the buffer to allow it to skip very short interuptions of line of sight like other luxury cars do!!

This is my first vehicle in years I have not even bothered to turn on my Sirius. Pandora over my iPhone seems clearer and just as reliable and its free.

I do have exactly the problem you are having on my motorcycle using a Garmin 665. Annoying as hell to the point I often don't listen to it.

Default Sirius reception

I.ve been having the same problem with a 2008 XJ. Dealer replaced the antenna 3 times...no help. Also, sometimes cuts out for long times with no apparent interfering overpasses, etc. Seems like a software problem Jaguar HQ also no help.

Default Same Sirius reception issues

I have a 2007 XJR (x358) with the exact same reception issues, I also have issues with the volume being really low. Compared to FM station or CD, volume seems to be at 30-40% when on Sirius, Not impressed. I have a a Kenwood DVD Navigation with Sirius and sometimes it will work even in a carwash, My Jag on the other hand skips a beat if im driving under a street light or a bird on a wire. Any suggestions?

Default Had erratic behavior solved with new radio module

I had the same problem on my 2010 XF Premium Luxury with the B&W sound system. It would loose the Satellite presets and lockout programing with a parental control. Took it back three times. At first they suspected a low voltage issue, but after three times they ordered a new Radio Module or the component of the system that the Sat Radio Tuner resides. Replaced the radio module and it worked perfectly.

I just bought a used '11 XJ and subscribed to Sirius. I live in an area with lots of trees and the service is basically unusable.

We seem to have lots of folks on the Forum with the problem. Has anyone found a solution? Or should I just unsubscribe?

Jaguar customer service representative, do you have any thoughts?

Thanks to all.

Ralph,
You have to basically see the satellite to get the signal. There is also the angle issue between the satellite and you, which means if you are directly under its orbit you get a better signal. Because when you move degrees north or south of that meridian, the curve of the earth effects or starts blocking the signal. Which still maybe the case still in parts of Canada. I'm not positive how many satellites now are used to send the signal. Buildings, bridges, tunnels and trees block the signal. the new units may have a better buffering system to compensate for short signal interruptions. Bottom line is the curvature of the earth should not be an issue in NC, while trees mountains and tunnels will, so if thats the causes just cancel the service.

I believe Jaguar had a service action or recall on the module.

XM has been cutting out like yours in wide open spaces but of course when the service mgr drove it it only lost signal under overpasses so they are scratching their heads. They did do an update on the radio mod so that may cure the ails.. I have a Suburban and never lose the XM signal. I will press them to replace the radio mod if the problem persists.

When do you think that may have been?

I haven't noticed it in my 2011 XJ. But then we don't have very many tall buildings here. Or hills. Or trees. It does seem to get better reception in the garage than the wife's 2011 Mini, which usually just gives up.

I've noticed the same problem with lost signal with my 2011 XJL. The signal will be lost with only a few tall trees or a narrow railway underpass.
Has anyone seen significant improvement with a radio module update?

I have a 2011 XJL, a 2010 Mustang, and a 2009 Corvette, all with satellite radios, and all have had reception problems, both in New Hampshire and North Carolina. I wasn't aware some cars have a buffer system to negate temporary "black outs". Anyhow, I never play the radio so loud that it would startle me if it cut out and then came back on. I'm more interested in hearing police, ambulance, and fire vehicle sirens, plus warning horns from other drivers, than in listening to music at volume levels that make me unaware of my surroundings. Driving is serious business, and their is absolutely no excuse for being distracted by car audio systems, cell phones, or fellow passengers, including children, especially at high speeds.

Thanks. Sirius was unable to help. After sending a signal refresh the sat stopped working altogether! I guess I'll try the dealer to check the module.
