Sourcing Replacement Leather - x351 Seats
Hi there!
Common advice is to source used seat covers or otherwise, but I'm not really going to replace my used seat with another used seat that will be prone to failure.
Has anyone sourced raw materials to re-trim x351 seats either in vinyl, semi aniline, or even full aniline?
I thought I found a great vinyl replacement with high Wyzenbeek score, from World Upholstery (great supplier for older Jags), but it cracked last week after like 10k miles of my butt being in the seat.
I will continue to contact local trimmers, but it's hard to find a dye match for the NAA trim I have (Ivory, blue piping). I'm not willing to spend for new OEM covers, I had FibreNew come out and do my bolsters for wear and that was great. Low cost, but wore off in 2 years.
Thanks in advance.

I had a very good result with Global Upholstery when I needed to match the dash of my XK8 and wanted real leather.
The match was as close as I could reasonably expect both in color and grain. See the results here in this thread.
They do have a minimum buy of leather you are basically buying by the cowhide.
They were great to work with, and will send you samples for about $10 each. I would bet that if they don't already have a match they would be willing to match a piece of yours.

I ordered a set from Adamesh for a 1982 380SL about 15 years ago and was very pleased with them. I installed them myself and they looked identical to OEM. I totaled the 380SL in 2010 and that’s how I ended up with my 97 XK8. But I don’t know if they still offer them. Best of luck to you.
