Default Thoughts on this purchase?

In the market for a Jag XJ (X351) and I'm relatively new to Jags in general as I have been a BMW owner for the last 8 years. Anyone achieve high mileage (Over 100k) out of these cars and are they generally reliable; in essence, what has your ownership experience been including year purchased/mileage and what problems have you had (including mileage)?

The vehicle is being sold by Jaguar and is a 2012 XJ 5.0 V8 N/A with 75k miles, the thermostat and cross pipes were replaced along with the water pump at 45k miles. Is this a car generally ticking time bomb after 100k miles or are there any positive stories from loyal X351 owners? My current BMW has 190k miles and is still strong so I tend to keep them for a very long time.

I appreciate the help in advance!

While I have 86k on my XJ, I can only speak highly of Hennessy Jaguar here in Atlanta. I've purchased 2 used Jags form Robert Lloyd there in Buckhead and have my current XJ purchased new and serviced by Jaguar North Atlanta. The repairs made are normal for this x351 series and the NA V8 is a good engine from my understanding as long as it is properly serviced (mileage or time which ever comes first) with the recommended oil. Personally I do my oil changes either every six months or 7500 miles which ever comes first and have had only waterpump and plastic tubes replaced on the engine. The newest pump seems to have solved the problems of failure of the earlier designs. Lastly I only use gas that is "Top Tier" certified.

Thank for your response! I’ve heard that the water pump could be an issue, not sure if it was replaced with the latest but it’s reassuring that you’ve had good service from Hennessy.

Rich, my experience is similar to XJsss. I do all of my own maintenance and my car is ticking over 83K miles. Just the normal maintenance items other than the water pump (which I just replaced myself). the car has been very reliable. It does have a few quirks (blind spot monitor comes in once in a blue moon and have gotten a suspension fault a few times, but that clears itself on the next start - may be parking at a funny angle and the car doesn't know how to handle it). I am planning on driving my car well past 200K miles. I see no issue in being able to do that.

92,000 on my clock with still original water pump.
Its due it’s annual service next month.
You’ll soon forget the BMW and find out how other motorists treat you with the courtesy a Jag deserves.

Can you get them to cosmetically repair the wheels, surprised they didn't before offering it for sale, it's not that hard for them to do. Maybe have them throw in it's next scheduled routine maintenance as well.

Well, I purchased the car! Thank you guys for all of the helpful information. Greatly appreciated. @Waggybeast they repaired the wheels for me and have a few other items that they promised to repair. All in all, I’m extremely pleased.

Here are some pics

Default good for you

Good for you! I suspect with it being used you may be a little ocd about finding little imperfections in it for the first month, but Ive had my 2015 Lunar Grey XJ for 4 and a half months now and love it, imperfections and all. If I could only find an easy way to get rid of the swirl marks in the black gloss plastic d pillars I’d be a very happy camper!

Rich, looks almost identical to mine. The only difference is I don't have the silver band on the mirrors any more. My mirrors are all black now, but still will get the yellow light to shine through when the turn signal is on.

Yes, so much to get familiar with but I’m really enjoying the car so far. Can’t seem to leave it alone!

From Meguiars Car Care Forum. Although the vehicle in this thread is a 2016 Ford Explorer, the advice applies to your XJ. See the second post by Nick Wynn, Product and Training Specialist. Meguiars, Inc.

I like the debadged look of mine, too (the 2010 didn't have the "Jaguar" lettering, either):

Treat her well and she will give you years of driving pleasure and satisfaction of ownership. One thing to be aware of, though . . owning one Jaguar can lead to really wanting another one. As for me, I couldn't resist, and picked up a XKR so the big cat wouldn't get lonely.
