Talking Tires for the XJL

Put a couple of thousand miles on the new ride and looking at replacing the Pirelli P Zero Neros that are on it. Looking at getting a full on summer perormance tire and really like Bridgestones. What do you guys think about putting some Bridgestone S04 Pole Positions on her?. My biggest concern is that they will ride good and road noise.

I had the stock P Zero replaced by Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 Plus. The people at Discount Tires said they are best in their selection for comfort. So far I have 5000 miles on them. Without side by side comparison, my understand is very subjective. When the road is good, with fresh tar on it, the ride is smooth and quiet, even at 80 miles (that is the highest safe speed I can do). But when the road is much used, the noise and bumpiness goes up with the speed. Maybe, this is what this big cat always do

19 or 20"? I'm a big fan of Michelin and have had more than one set of Pilot SuperSports and now the latest edition or Pilot Sport 4S. Absolutely love them. If I were to choose another tire I'd get HANKOOK VENTUS V12 EVO2. We have them on my wife's 2014 BMW 650i convertible with the M package and they are great and ride almost as good as the Michelins. I ran 1 set of the Bridgstone S0-4s and did not like them at all on my 2001 XJR they rode hard and got noisier as they wore.

Thanks XJsss. They are 19s. The Pirelli Zero Neros just feel vague at initial turn in. Car feels good once initial steering input is made and the car is set in the corner. You can then just dial on the power and it stays neutral. It is also an AWD model. It feels like the sidewall is flexing too much.

I went from P Zero to Michelin PS4S and noticed the change in ride comfort and grip.
I took the car to Deals Gap and they were great through the mountains.
I've had 2-sets of the Hankook Ventus V12 on a set of Jaguar STR wheels and now running the Bridgestone S04. The Hankook are ok but didn't last as long as the Bridgestone.

Glad to hear you are running suggested pressures as some run lower pressures and find the ride bouncy. I have found pressure is critical as Jag designs the suspension compliance based on the recommended presser and that the suspension handles the ride.

Looks like those HanKook tires don't come in the size needed for the XJR?
Need 265/35-20 fronts and 295/30-20 rears.

Any other suggestions?

I had the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus tires installed back in the spring and am very pleased with quietness, ride, and grip. These are not the same as the P Zero Neros that came on the car, an average tire at best. There was an unnerving tendency with the Neros to hydroplane, but the P Zeros have been stellar under the same conditions.

can you let me know how you like it thus far.? My tire shop is recommending the same brand for a wobbling issue caused by my current tires. I'm looking mostly for comfort and quiet ride.

thank you

I really like the Michelin's. They ride very smooth and quiet. Handling on dry pavement is outstanding and is certainly more than adequate for an XJ on the street in the U.S. I have not had the opportunity to drive with them in the wet but I am sure they will be fine.

If Michelin would expand thier sizes in the PS4S to include the 19" wheels on my XJL 5.0 SC, i would be installing them Monday morning.
