Traffic Message Channel. It provides traffic reports along your route in navigation.

My sales guy heard about this in the software update briefing. It is integrated traffic with the nav. I can only guess what it actually is - I think when a destination is activated in the nav it can suggest an alternative route based on traffic or event delay. When I enable TMC it has the Avoid Traffic and Avoid Event buttons, as well as the radio station it is using to pick up traffic multicast.

Your NAV will scan local radio channels for stations with TMC service. Once found you will get that symbold. Works very well. Only after free dealer service bulleting software upgrade on some cars.

jcamp - you can find detailed information about TMC in your XJ Owner's Handbook. I have it under pages 136 - 138 of my Handbook (most likely North American version).
